Recess.
The young children released out a rapturous hurrah when they heard the bell ring. They jumped out of their seats and bolted out the door, running towards the playground.
You, however, isolated yourself away from all the energetic ball of fluff and chose to stay by the corner instead, kicking grains of sand beneath your feet while observing a colony of red ants. You squatted down to get a good close-up, not noticing the soccer ball that was rolling towards your way, until it softly collided against the soles of your feet.
"I'm sorry!" someone called out urgently, approaching you with hurried steps. He was a small boy around your age, with tan skin and dark hair, which was hidden inside an orange dinosaur cap with three protruding eyes at the front. You guessed that the ball belonged to him. "Can I please have that back?"
You looked at the boy, then down at the ball, and then back at him, and then the ball again. You continuously repeated this pattern, with the boy giving you an odd look. As if finally understanding his message, you hesitantly picked up the ball and handed it to him awkwardly.
See, this is the reason why you preferred to be alone. Socializing was pretty much your greatest flaw since you were awkward at it, and you didn't want to freak out the other children. That is why you did not have any friends. However, it seems like this boy was not going to go away any time soon.
"Thank you!" the boy beamed with a wide, radiating smile as he retrieved his soccer ball. "My name is BoBoiBoy! What's yours?"
You looked away, nervously chewing down on your bottom lip. "[N-Name]."
"That's a pretty name," BoBoiBoy commented, making your cheeks turn a shade of pink. "Come'on! Let's go play soccer with my other—ow!"
You gawked at BoBoiBoy, who was jumping up and down, desperately trying to remove his shoes.
"Ow ow ow ow ow!" Apparently, a bunch of red ants crawled into his shoes and had bitten him as punishment for stepping on their ant hill. How careless.
You couldn't help but giggle. Though it was a quiet one, and despite the pain he was feeling, he still heard it, which made him smile too.
