Yuuri pulled the laces tight and finished tying them before looking back up. Viktor was already on the ice, never skating too far away. The days had started to get warmer the past few days and they'd both decided to take one last skate out on the lake before the ice grew too thin. Yuuri got to his feet and walked to the bank, only stopping as he watched Viktor skate towards him.

Viktor held his hand out to Yuuri. "Care to join me?"

Yuuri only smiled as he took his hand and stepped onto the ice. He pushed away, Viktor staying right alongside him. A warm breeze blew past them, brushing his bangs aside.

The ice spanning over the lake shined under the dim sunlight above them, even though it was only overcast that day. Winter hadn't lasted nearly as long as it did most years. One of the not so great things about only having a lake to skate at when you don't live close to a rink anymore. At the moment, it was nice to get away from the city every once in awhile.

Yuuri spun in place as Viktor raised their hands above their heads. He looked back to Viktor with a smile that matched Viktor's own expression that spread over his face. Viktor's hand slipped from his as he skated farther over the lake. He pushed himself faster before jumping into the air. In the moment in the air, he thought about what he wanted the jump to be. He'd originally thought about a triple axel, but maybe just a double right now. His last rotation was more than he had planned. He felt the ice meet his skates again, but he didn't feel a landing.

Frigid water surrounded him as panic overtook him. The cold around him pressed on his chest, seeming to close in on him from every side. When he gasped for breath, only frozen water rushed to his lungs. He reached up, trying to grasp the surface. There was nothing to see and even if there was, he wasn't sure he would have been able to. His feet only seemed to propel him further below, his skates tied tight to feet.

The panic swelling in him only rose when he felt a hand close around his wrist. He wasn't sure how conscious he was when he felt himself rising through the water. The cold air hit him and he gasped, his lungs filling with frozen air that had been so warm earlier. He was dragged onto land and he felt the ice under him until he was on something else.

"Yuuri! Yuuri, can you hear me?"

His eyes felt heavy as he tried to wrap his arms around himself to preserve warmth that wasn't there. He opened his eyes and it wasn't much of an improvement. Everything was out of focus and was shaking, but maybe the shaking was just him.

He could faintly hear his name behind the rushing in his ears. He looked up and saw someone, their features all blurred as if he were seeing him from across the lake.

"V-v-vikt-tor?"

The silver blur nodded. Viktor pulled him to his feet, his arms around him steadying Yuuri. His teeth chattered and he couldn't seem to stop them. The few meter walk back inside seemed twice as long. The door closed behind them after they entered the house, but Yuuri couldn't stop shaking. They stopped in front of the fireplace where a small fire was still burning. His frozen, sopping wet clothes came off to be replaced with a thick blanket that Viktor wrapped around him. Taking the bunch of clothing away, he came back with dry clothing which Viktor helped Yuuri put on.

Viktor never said a word. After he had fed the fire, he sat down with Yuuri and wrapped his arms around him as Yuuri's chattering came to a stop. Yuuri leaned into Viktor, holding the blanket as tight as he could.

"Vik-viktor?"

"Yes, Yuuri."

"I'm really fi-ine," he tried to say.

He felt Viktor's head rest on his, his warmth eminating from him as he held him close. "I know," he answered quietly.

With Viktor under him and the warmth of the fire reaching out in front of him, Yuuri's eyes slowly closed to dreamless sleep.
