We got arrested and I was scared shitless.
We were shackled, sat on benches at the police station with blood down our faces. Well actually, I had blood down my face, Cue had blood down his knuckles. I was also littered with bruises and small wounds. It stung like a bitch but I was too concerned about the fact that I may end up at juvi to care.
Cue didn't seem to give a shit. He glared holes at the wall behind the receptionist, if you could call him that, in front of us. Yet he was in more trouble than I was in. If shit got bad he was going to jail being nineteen, at seventeen I only got juvenile center. I looked at him, concerned and fidgety, he noticed that. He surprised me by roughly leaning to the side, jerking his head so it would meat my ear. What's with him and his torturing way of speaking in my ear, sending shivers down my spine, how dare he.
"Stop stressing out, Stephan" he breathed, "We won't get jailed, it's too minor an incident."
"Minor an incident?" I repeated incredulous, "Dude, you broke that guys ribs and probably snapped his jugular!"
He went to answer, frowning, but got interrupted by a new presence in the room. A woman, thirty and some, a cop. She grabbed some document off the receptionist's desk and gave us a once over. We stayed silent and Cue went back to glaring at nothing in particular.
"A street fight huh?" She began, trailing her eyes over the document, "... bla, bla, bla... ah, sent a guy to the hospital....Ok yeah, so I'll be taking turns interrogating each of you so if you'd please follow me."
She'd pointed to me. I stood up and looked back at Cue for some kind of confirmation but he just looked away. I followed the lady into one of those gray rooms with a single table you see in like every cop tv show ever. She made herself comfortable across from me. She was a ginger, wore her uniform neatly, no makeup, she seemed like she didn't have kids. I don't know why I made that assumption or why I thought she'd maybe want to adopt the kid we found. I shook my head, this was not my main problem right now.
"So, Stephan Costa, resident of the Baltimian Slums," She began, " You look pretty roughed up... can I get an overview of what happened?"
" Uh, " I swallowed, " My frie- uh... the guy, um..."
"Cue Beck, yes." She helped out. She seemed completely used to this.
"Well we were looking for a place for um... stuff" I said unsure whether or not tell her why we were here. " Some guys approached us, um like teasing me and shit for my skin, I don't think they knew me..."
"So who started the fighting?" She asked. I swallowed, not wanting to lie.
"Um, Cue did...." I said " One of the guys pulled my hair saying shit like 'Aw sick man even his hair is white as fuck, I wonder if it would be worth more than normal hair? Or maybe it's shit.'" I mimicked the guy's words like it was an everyday thing, " He didn't really see it coming when Cue began beating him up. The other guys ran. Um I didn't expect it really, we're not really friends so I don't really know why he chose to defend me. I mean, I don't think the other guys would have left us alone otherwise but..."
I shut my mouth, realizing that probably wasn't relevant.
"Uhh huh," she nodded " I need you to specify what exactly you were doing though. 'Stuff' doesn't cut it. "
" We .... We were looking for an orphanage for a kid we found abandoned in the slums." I said.
"Wow that's creative." She huffed.
"I'm not lying."
"Then where's the kid?" She asked.
"We left him in the slums, we weren't even sure we'd find him a place to stay so dragging him along for god knows how long didn't seem like a good idea...and I think he has a disease or something." I also thought she didn't need to know that last part.
