I was stolen from my sleep from the devil, or more commonly known as the alarm clock. It was 5:00 A.M. I glanced over at my parents’ bed only to see they were still asleep. It should be the opposite, the parents would get up first and the child last, but actually my parents are monsters if they don’t get enough sleep. I didn’t want to be in a car with people who turn into fire breathing dragons if they don’t sleep. Rolling my eyes, I turned off the alarm and walked to my bag to find the cloths I was wearing today and my toiletry bag.

I walked into the bathroom and stretched. It was our second and last day of travels, and it was going to be a terribly long day. I started the shower and stripped out of my clothes, all while trying to wipe sleep from my eyes. I showered, pulled on my clothes, did all my necessities, and then woke my parents up.

They whined and whimpered, but after a couple of minutes they got up to get ready. I rolled my eyes again. Sometimes it just seemed as if I was the parent in this family.

Finally after what seemed like a life time of waiting they were ready to leave. We all walked down to the front desk, dad paid, and then we walked to our car. We had difficulty getting all of our bags into the trunk since the U-Hall was in the way, but we managed.

“Are you excited about starting school in 2 days, Cam?” My mom asked casually, but I could almost see her excitement roll off her in waves. She was more excited than I was.

“I guess.” I replied. I have to admit, the thought of starting over gave me hope, and butterflies in my stomach. I just have a feeling that something awesome would happen in my new town.

I settled into my seat, and looked outside while we drove down the highway.

My phone vibrated in my pocket, just when I was about to fall asleep. Lately I have been so tired, and there is no reason for it. Anyways the text was from my only friend back in Maine, Greyson. Greyson was a typical all American boy, but he had a sweet spot for me, and I didn’t have the slightest idea why. The text said “Hey C, I miss you already, but maybe when you are settled then I could spend part of break up there with you. I have some important things I need to tell you.” Curiously, pondered what he needed to tell me.

“Sure Grey, that sounds wonderful. Love and miss ya.” I replied.

“Like, I really miss you cam.” He texted. I smiled and we started texting with flirty banter. After a while, I said I had to go, grabbed The Maze Runners from my bag and began to read.

After hours of driving in a cramped car we arrived at 6 p.m. I release a deep breath, clumsily got out of the car, then followed my parents to our new house. It was really cute, a 2 story house from a fairytale and to make it even more magical it was snowing.

My dad unlocked the door, and we walked in. I decided to take a quick look through before grabbing my bags and unpacking. I ran up the stairs and looked through the two upstairs bedrooms. There was a master downstairs, but that was obliviously for my parents. I walked in to the first bedroom that faced the front yard, but it wasn’t that interesting. Just had a window that was overlooking the front yard, but there was nothing about it that seemed special.

I walked to the second room, and opened the door. The inside was my wardrobe, dresser, and my bed. It had a polished wooden floor and a huge window with a seat that over looked the backyard. It must have been a girl’s room when first built. There was an en suite that had a built in vanity and claw foot tub that was white. The whole bedroom was enchanting, and I had no clue how my mom knew I would want the room.

I walked back into my bedroom to see my mom leaning on the doorframe.

“How did you…”I started

“I just knew you would love it, and I had all of our furniture was shipped last Thursday and set up today. I hope you like our new home.” She said with a smile.

“Mom, I love it. I feel like I am meant to be here” I replied with a smile.

“I do too.” she whispered. I walked over to her and gave her a big hug. After that little exchange I ran down stairs and grabbed my suitcases out of the car along with my backpack. Tomorrow I would grab the rest of my room items and unpack into my new room.

I dropped all my bags and walked to the window seat, and sat down with my laptop. Opening it up, I checked Facebook, watched my missed Youtube videos, and then looked at Imgur for a couple of hours. When it was 10 I decided it was time to fall into bed and go to sleep.

I shut my laptop and looked out the window. Outside, there was a giant black wolf looking back at me.

I gasped and muttered “oh my god” with my hand over my mouth. I didn’t scream like I thought I was going to, instead I looked into his eyes, it was like we were having a staring contest. They were Gold with a black ring around the outside. He turned his head to the side, much like a dog would, and looked almost curious. I closed my eyes and shook my head. Okay now I sound completely insane. A wolf being curious? That is just crazy. When I reopened my eyes it was gone. Nowhere in sight.

There was something about the wolf. He was … calming? No that’s insane. And how the hell do I know it’s a boy? I don’t even know much about wolves.

‘You imagined it. You are exhausted and you hallucinate, go to sleep.’ My subconscious told me. I stumbled to my bed with awe and weariness. I fell into my sheets and buried my head into my bed and left sleep consume me.
