“Sometimes change is good” my mom stated. I sighed, of course it was. Don’t get me wrong, I am not angry at all that we are moving, it was just so abrupt. I couldn’t understand why we needed to move on such short notice. I’m not sad about leaving that small town in Maine behind. There were so many embarrassing  moments that will haunt me forever. I shuddered, thinking of one of the many.

~flashback~

“Cameron, come on out of the house and join us in the pool. It will be nice to get a tan.”Jayme said, and I could almost immediately notify the smirk plastered on her face.

I shook off my fear and talked out of the comfort of the house. Jayme was standing there with a smile looking at her nails, waiting for something. I slowly stripped off my cover up, leaving me exposed and open for the whole backyard full off teens to leer at. I was dressed in a two piece, the first two piece I was able to wear. I had recently lost a ton of weight, and I am super self conscious of my body. I don’t like to be noticed usually, so having people look at me freaks out. After a few moments of staring everyone turned back to their original conversations. I let out the breath I didn’t know I was holding.

“See Cam, that wasn’t so bad. And girl you look f-i-n-e.” she smiled and I some-what relaxed. I still had a feeling in the back of my mind that something horrible would happen today. As I lounged at the pool party wasting the day way, I was completely unaware of the dangers that laid before me.

Jayme had been begging me to jump into the pool, so after 2 hours of sweating out in the sun, I decided to join her in the pool. She seemed more than pleased that I was getting into the water, for some odd reason. I shook off the hesitation and jumped into the pool.

While entering the pool I felt a series of emotions.

First, there was shock from the ice cool water.

Second, there was relief. The cool water was relaxing my body.

Third, there was fear. I have never been a good swimmer.

After all the emotions rapidly changed I resurfaced and got a breath of air, only to be taken under again, it happened so fast that I started to fight it. It seemed that everyone chose that moment to get in the pool, and ambush me, dunk me. I only got a few gulps of breath when I fought my way to the top. I didn’t know why everyone was attacking, but somewhere through the water fighting, someone pulled of my top and bottoms. Not expecting this, and thoroughly embarrassed I quickly made it to the pool edge and pulled myself out.

Heads turned, and there was silence as I stood there, and the whole senior class watched me. I was completely naked in front of a grade who had tormented me my whole life, because I was fat.

Then, after a moment of no sound and the shock faded, everyone started laughing. They judged me. They didn’t appreciate the amount of work and dedication I put into losing weight. They didn’t care, they only wanted to torment me.

I grabbed the closest towel to me, covered my body, and then booked it out of there.

~End of flashback~

‘No Cameron, you won’t think of it that way. You are starting a new life in a new place. No one will know anything about you. You will be different, confident. Hell! You might even get a boyfriend if you’re lucky. Nothing will come for you. You are safe.’ I told myself.  With the thoughts of a new me, I settled into my seat and slept for what felt like hours in a dreamless slumber.

“Cameron, will you please wake up? We are at the hotel. Come on baby girl, get up.” My dad cooed in my ear.

I blinked my eyes sleepily, and got up, I checked the time on my phone, seeing that it was 11:38. I grabbed my bags and headed into our hotel room.

I opened the door, to an ordinary double bed hotel room. I put my bags in the corner, unpacked it for my pajamas and my toiletries, and quickly went into the bathroom, while my mom grabbed the TV remote, and started flipping through the channels.

Looking into the mirror, I saw a reflection of a girl. She had long brown hair that had hints of red in it. She was a healthy pale. She had a more curved figure, but that didn’t mean she was fat. She had big green eyes, and pink lips. That girl was me. She had many thing imperfect about her, but she was still beautiful. Even if those kids at my last school couldn’t see the beauty, I do. I think, I am perfect the way I am, and don’t have to change for other peoples standards.

I thought of all of this as I turned on the shower to hot and waited for the heat to kick in.

I quickly undressed, and hopped into the shower. I started to wash my hair, my mind still swarming with the thoughts of my past school.

I took a deep breath and closed my eyes while resting on the wall of the shower. First I saw nothing but the color black, but slowly a boy- er- man started to appear. If I had to describe this man in one word it would be… umm… sexy. He was standing in the dark in pair of blue jeans. His chest was bare and toned, making it obviously that he worked out often. He seems to have an intricate tribal tattoo all around his clavicle and his shoulders.  From what I could see, he filled out those jeans in an impressive way. The only thing peculiar about this man, was that his face was obscured, well, all except his eyes. His eyes were captivating, like they were looking into my soul, searching for something. They were a brilliant black color, but the thing that made them unique was there was a gold ring around the pupil. He was an absolutely intriguing man. I want to know him, no! I need to know him. Rather, I NEED him…

“CAMERON ELIZABETH RUTHERFORD, GET YOU BUTT OUT OF THAT SHOWER THIS INSTANT!!” My mom screeched.

“Yes ma’am! Sorry!” I mumbled while stumbling out of the shower, still in a daze from the man I had just witnessed.

“What were you doing in their? Day dreaming?” She asked quizzically.

“Something like that.” I muttered while walking out of the bathroom, half dressed.

“Finally!” My mother exclaimed as she rushed into the bathroom and shut the door, giggling. I swear sometime my mother is the weirdest.

I take my dirty close to my suitcase, only to remember I had forgotten my toiletries bag while rushing out of the bathroom. I quickly walk back to the bathroom door, and knock, then enter. My mother is standing there in her underwear, dancing. As I said, she is weird.

I grab my bag and quickly walk out, shutting the door behind me. how in the hell did I get stuck with the weirdest parents, I thought.

I put my toiletries in my suitcase, then walked to my bed. I looked at my father who was already snoring in his one peaceful dream world, twitching every now and then. I smiled, and laid down exhausted. As I slowly drifted of to sleep, the man from earlier seemed to creep back into my mind, and I slipped under with the image of black, gold-rimmed eyes watching me.
