The door bust open, a couple of zombies stumbled in. Xavier shot up out of bed, bat in hand as he watched the snarling creatures drag themselves forward. Jared looked around, eyeing Xavier, and jumped out of bed too, standing beside the boy. Chris humbled over as the few zombies got closer.

"How did they get in?" Xavier yelled at Chris, he furiously swung his bat wiping out a zombie, damaging his head enough to "kill" it. He angrily stared down Jared who stood protectively half in-front of Xavier.

"I don't know," Chris huffed, taking one out with his switchblade. "I think if someone locked the downstairs door we wouldn't be having this problem!" He screamed in Jared's direction

A small herd of zombies slowly made it up the stairwell, enough to trap them to the point where this might be it for them. Xavier pushed Jared to the side with a  grunt and swung hard at the zombie in-front of him, it's head rolling right off of it's neck.

"Get out of here!" We heard Jeremiah yell as we heard a board break behind us. One window wasn't boarded up anymore, as Jeremiah was covered with blood and wood chips. He sighed and looked at us with worry.

Chris shuffled to the window, launching himself out and thankfully there was a small balcony below the window, just enough for three of us. Xavier hesitated, then ran towards the window, jumping out and landing next to Chris. A couple of harsh words were said to Jeremiah by Jared before Jared landed next to Xavier on the balcony. It was dark out, very dark, you could see the stars and moon shining brightly. Xavier could barely make out Jared's face, but he saw a sad look cross it. He knew something was wrong.

Screams of Jeremiah could be heard, next to growling, and then silence. Chris looked at Xavier, tears streaming down his face, but he made no noises. Xavier pulled Chris into a hug, patting his back. Xavier felt the cold, salty tears hit his shoulder as he tried to comfort his friend. He could feel the burning eyes of Jared gnaw its way through the back of Xavier's head for a few seconds, tension filled through all of them.

Chris turned away from Xavier and looked down the balcony. As they were seven floors up, some windows had bigger balconies where they could possibly sleep. The night air was a little chilly, but they'd survive. Chris heaved himself ontop of the balcony bar and held on, looking at the next balcony a bit below us. It was big enough to hold them so they could sleep. Chris leaped down onto the balcony, then Xavier followed, with Jared close behind.

"This is our life now," Chris looked at Xavier, hurt in his eyes. "It's never going to be easy. Goodnight guys." He said, walking over to the corner of the balcony, sitting down, and wrapped his arms around his knees, pulling them close. You could hear small sniffles coming from the depressed boy, Jeremiah was his first friend when this went to shit.

Xavier looked at Chris with sorrow and sat down himself, he stretched out on the balcony and fully laid down. His feet sat next to Chris as he laid on his right side, his arm propping his head up. He heard a huff as he felt Jared's back pressed up against his own. The stars twinkled in the sky and the moon shone dimly against their side of the world. He was almost asleep when he felt Jared shift and Jared's left arm flopped onto his left side. Jared pulled Xavier into him, cuddling him as Xavier shivered a bit from the cold. He let out a sigh of annoyance, but accepted it as he didn't want to freeze to death.
