Comfort

The air conditioner whirred in the background of the hazy Summer night as Mahiru fazed out of a deep sleep. The street lights peaking through the gap between the curtains radiated a mellow glow on a section of the small room. He blinked the stubborn sleep out of his eyes and rolled over on his side. The digital clock on the nightstand blinked over from three O' two to three O' three. His eyes fluttered close and he tried to go back to sleep. However, he found that his sleepiness had faded away and he felt much too awake. Letting out a loud sigh, he laid on his back and stared at the fuzzy ceiling.

"Hey are you awake...?" A soft deep voice whispered from the dark corner of the room.

Mahiru sat up in his bed looked across at the figure who was sitting against the corner of the wall. His crimson eyes glowed in the darkness like a cats' eyes.

"What's wrong sweetie?" Mahiru questioned as he got out of bed. Normally he wouldn't use such terms of affection to address Kuro since it annoyed the vampire. But he could tell that his servamp needed some reassurance right now.

He crouched down and gently petted Kuro's hair, gliding his hands against his silky soft hair. Kuro leaned into Mahiru's hand and low purr rose from his throat. His Eve's touch felt so tender and warm, he melted right into his hand.

"Had a nightmare." Kuro muttered.

"That must have been scary," Mahiru comforted as wrapped his arms around his shoulders, "Don't worry, you're safe now."

Kuro nuzzled his head into Mahiru's shoulder and held the boy closer to him. The images of his nightmare still troubled his mind, it was a pain. The dream had been so vivid, everything felt like it just happened. Even his legs felt sore from the terrifying chase in his dream. That last heart-pounding scene burned into his mind. The monster that was pursuing him grabbed him by the arm and threw him to the ground. He felt his stomach sink and he remembered tightly closing his eyes. When he opened them, he was back in reality and had transformed out of his cat form.

"Do you want to sleep in my bed tonight?" Mahiru suggested softly.

A light blush flashed across Kuro's cheeks as he hummed in agreement. This was the first time he had slept next to his Eve in human form, he felt slightly nervous at the prospect. Being so physically close to someone was out of character for him. He usually kept contact at minimum, he preferred to be by himself. But this night was different, he felt a need to have someone next to him, to console him, to tell him everything was going to be okay.

Mahiru patted a spot next to him on the bed and invited Kuro to come over. Kuro tossed his coat on a pile on the floor and kicked off his boots before plopping down next to him. They both got settled on the bed and Mahiru pulled the covers over them. He kept a protective arm snuggled around Kuro's waist. The servamp cuddled closer to Mahiru until their chests almost touched. Mahiru placed a comforting kiss against Kuro's forehead and cheek. Kuro began to purr again and rested his head against Mahiru's chest, making Mahiru giggle quietly.

"C..can you pet me again?" Kuro asked hesitantly, slightly embarrassed at the request.

Mahiru slid his hand in slow strokes from the top of Kuro's head to the middle of his back. Kuro began to purr a bit louder and smiled, he didn't realize how much he loved being cuddled. He felt so wonderful, like he was being wrapped in a safety blanket. His fears seemed to fade away when he was being treated with such tenderness. He wondered why he hadn't tried this with his partner earlier. From now on, he wanted to snuggle with Mahiru nightly. This wonderful feeling made him say something that he would normally keep tucked away.

"I really love you Mahiru....Thank you for being so nice to me.." Kuro purred into Mahiru's chest.

"You're very welcome, I love you too sweetheart." Mahiru said sweetly into Kuro's ear.

Kuro lifted his head and pecked his Eve on the lips before falling asleep next to him. Mahiru fell asleep soon after, still holding the sleepy vampire close to him.
