It was a lovely night. Fireworks scattered the sky with dancing colours and thundering noises. It was a New Year's Eve celebration as everyone around the world celebrated the incoming new year. The collective excitement filled the air with anticipation and joy. At a party with his dearest friends is Nathan Manning, a man who managed to find himself as a comedian despite never being able to crack a smile within the audience. He makes a living from ticket sales, but less and less turnouts are destroying both his confidence and career. Nathan is the only one on a joyous New Year's Eve that can't seem to let the cheer penetrate his soul, even while he's surrounded by friends.

At the party, Nathan decides to step outside to take a quick smoke break. His girlfriend, Celine Baker, follows him. Outside in the illuminated night, Celine questions Nathan out of concern: "Hey babe, are you alright?"

"No, yeah I'm fine. I just had to come out here for a sec. Figured I'd light up for a bit," replied Nathan. Celine immeditely stared at him with a look of utter disbelief. Nate threw the cigarette to the floor and spoke up again saying, "Ok... I've just been down about not being able to fulfill my dream of being a comedian. I can't make anyone laugh. It's like I'm talking to mannequins!"

"Oh I don't know babe, " Celine interrupted as she begins to wrap her arms around Nate's neck. "I think you're a great comedian. You make me laugh."

"Yeah well it's not like there are dozens of you ready to buy tickets to my show. Besides, at this rate how am I supposed to make money to provide for us, for our kids?

Celine went in to embrace Nathan without saying a word. They both sttod there in each others' arms for a brief moment. Immediately, Jason, Nathan's friend popped her head outside to interject: "Hurry up and come inside guys! The ball's about to drop! You've got 10 seconds!"

"We'll be in shortly," replied Celine. Nathan then stared deeply into her eyes. Within the house, the countdown began with the shouting echoing throughout, "Ten! Nine!"

"I love you Nate."

"I love you too babe."

"Five!"

Immediately, Nathan whispered to himself, "I wish I could be a better comedian."

"Two!"

"One!"

"Happy New Year!"

Celine and Nathan, in their warm embrace went in to kiss to bring in the new year.
