The next morning, Nathan decides to plan the wedding with his fiancee. He kisses her forhead while she's still sleeping and softly whispers into her ear, "Hey babe, I was thinking for the wedding we could --." Before he could even finish his statement, Celine found herself once again losing her mind with laughter. The sounds echoed throughout the bedroom as Celine tried to catch her breath.
Nathan tried to speak to her again: "Babe... can you just listen for a --." Once again, lauhter possessed her soul and it was the only thing she could do to the point where she rolled out of bed and landed onto the floor.
"Can you just take me serious--." There was no stopping her laughter. With every word Nathan said, his words would be drowned out by the sounds of Celine's laughter.
Nathan then sprung out of bed with a distressed look on his face and put on clothes ready to head out. He spoke softly to himself, "Forget this, I need a drink." He strolled out of his apartment still being able to hear the laughter of Celine dying down.
At the bar, Nathan sat on the stool and signaled the bartender towards him. The bartender routinely questioned him, "So, what'll it be?"
"I'll take a whiskey on the rocks."
Without a moment's notice, the bartender broke down with a laughter that reverberated for all to hear. Nathan grew angry and shouted at the top of his voice, "Seriously? You too? Why can't I just talk to someone without them getting hysterical? I just want someone to talk to!" Immediately the entire bar became one of Nathan's comedy clubs. The sounds of laughter bounced off the walls and the joy beemed through everyone's soul. Everyone besides Nathan.
Nathan got back home and tried talking to Celine once more: "Celine, why can't you just talk to me? I've been having a rough day and I just want to talk to you! I need you to be there for me! Can you just not laugh this time? I need actual words. I need someone to be there for me!" All through what he said, Celine had been keeping within her a demon of laughter. And without warning, the demon was let loose. Tears streamed down her face as she broke down to the floor laughing.
"You see! This is what I'm talking about! All you do is laugh. I just want to clear myself of this emotional burden but all you can ever do is laugh. Why can't you just talk to me?"
In that instant, Celine had laughed so much that she just couldn't breath properly. Within second of her breaking down to the floor in laughter, she had died due to lack of oxygen because of the continuous laughter. Nathan stared down at her body and collapsed into tears. He held clutched her corpse saying, "No! No! Celine! Come on baby! Laugh for me! Something! Just laugh! Anything!" Tears dripped down from Nathan's eyes onto Celine's body. He wailed with her in his arms.
About a week later, Celine's funeral was being held. The priest of the church came up to the altar and spoke to the crowd: "Now... the fiance of Ms. Baker shall come up to say a few parting words."
Nathan trudged to the stand and tried to hold back his tears. He started off by sayng, "Celine and I had been together for 2 years. I loved her more and more everyday we've been together. I hoped to provide for her and our children one day, but it seems as though my heart's desire will have to be put to rest. I will forever love you Ce--." Before Nathan could finish his final goodbyes, the crowd erupted with unfitting laughter. The crowd had to holld their sided from the pain because of the laughter within them from what Nathan said.
Nathan's anger began to mix with his sadness as he shouted towards the crowd, "What's wrong with you people? My fiancee lies dead before us. She will no longer be with any of us! She's dead! And all any of you could do his chuckle to your heart's content. All I want is to be taken seriously - to receive reactions that a normal man would! Why is that so much to ask? Why can't I be granted such a simple a simple wish?"
The laughter among the crowd didn't weaken, not even slightly. Nathan's frustration grew wildly out of control. He stormed out and drove off recklessly. He muttered the words, "I'm coming Celine," before driving into a lamp pole, ultimately killing himself.
