"Just call me 'big brother' already."

"I already told you, I won't."

Norway was staring down his little brother, his piercing blue eyes staring into Iceland's violet ones. They had been at this for days now, and Icey was STILL refusing to grant his brother's wish. Norway crossed his arms and leaned back against his chair. He propped his feet up on the table. "Fine, if you won't call me 'big brother', then I'll make you say something instead." Iceland sighed and rested his elbows on the edge of the table. "And what's that?" Norway smiled and crossed his right ankle over his left one. "You have to tell me you love me."

"WHAT?!" Iceland stood up in surprise. "That's ridiculous! Why on earth would I ever tell you that?" Norway sighed and closed his eyes. "It's your fault anyways," he mumbled. "If only you had called me 'big brother' sooner than it might never have come to this~" Iceland felt his cheeks turn redder, and redder. "Hey! Don't go blaming me for your arrogance. You were the one who started all of this anyways!" Norway started to twirl his hat on the tip of his finger, clearly tuning out Iceland. "Are you even LISTENING to me?" Norway let out a chuckle. "Wha-what's so funny?" Iceland felt his cheeks begin to cool down. "I am not going to acknowledge you until you tell me you love me." Iceland was completely bewildered. He threw his hands in the air and sighed. "You are ridiculous. So what if I care that you won't acknowledge me? I'd rather be dead than tell you that I love you." Norway's expression quickly shifted. He didn't look so cocky anymore, but he looked hurt. "Hey, what's going on here?" Norway and Iceland turned to see their older brother standing in the doorway, beer in hand as always."Nothing," Iceland mumbled as he brushed past Denmark. "Everything is just perfect."

------TIME SKIP

"Hey Icey, you sure you don't want to come out and join us for drinks? Your family really misses you! You've been shut up in your room all d-"

"I said no."

Iceland slammed his door. Finland sighed and put his hand through his soft blonde hair. "Geez, what's with that boy? He's been in a sour mood all day long." Denmark chugged his beer and slammed down his mug. "I heard *hick* that Norway was messing around with him and said something that set him off!" Finland looked up at Denmark. "Really? What did he do, Den? It must've been pretty bad if it set off Iceland that bad." Denmark drunkenly wiped his mouth with his sleeve. "He said *hick*... Uh... I don't remember. What did you say again Norge?" Norway stared at his cup. He hadn't sipped his beer once during the whole hour they have been sitting there. Usually he would be on his third pint by now. "Norge? You okay?" Norway stood up and put down his cup, causing some of the beer to spill out during the process. "I just wanted him to tell me that he loved me, just once." Sweden positioned himself next to Finland on the couch. He stared right at Norway.    "Is it becuase you are going off to war tomorrow?"

"Yo Icey! What's the matter with you?"

Iceland sat on his bed, clutching his pillow and holding it close to his chest. His eyes were red and puffy, as if he had just been crying in the last half-hour. Mr.Puffin, his compainion, flapped over to him and started slapping Iceland's thigh with his little black wings. "Icey? ICEY!" he squawked in that husky voice of his. Iceland gently hit Mr. Puffin with his pillow, causing the little bird to make a surprised gruffle. "Stop it," Iceland grumbled. "You getting on my nerves isn't going to help me."            "FINE," the puffin retorted. "Call me when you're done with your man-period." And with that, Mr. Puffin flew out the window in anger. "Stupid bird," Iceland whispered. "He doesn't even understand how I feel." "Maybe he would if you told him." Iceland looked up and surprise and saw his brother, Norway, standing in his door way. His arms were neatly folded over his chest and he had a serious look on his face. Iceland buried his head into his knees and shook his head. "Leave me alone. You didn't even come here to help me, did you? You just wanted to lecture me about my behavior, huh?" Norway sighed, and walked over to Iceland and put himself next to Iceland on the bed. "Yes and no," he said gently. "I want you to talk to me first. I want you to tell me what's going on with you."

Iceland scooted away, but Norway put his arm around Iceland's shoulders and pulled him to him, preventing him from escaping the situation. "Ice... talk to me." Norway pleaded. Iceland could tell by his tone that he was serious. He really did want Iceland to talk to him. Iceland bit his lower lip and let it all pour out. "YOU ALWAYS TREAT ME LIKE A CHILD!" he shouted. He stood up and faced Norway. "You never treat me like the man I am now! I am not your little brother anymore, so stop treating me like one! I don't belong to you, Norway!" Tears formed in Iceland's eyes, his bottom lip began to tremble. His cheeks were red and soon tears were pouring down them. He covered his eyes with his hands, praying for Norway not to respond. But that isn't what Norway did. No, he didn't repond in the way Iceland expected him to. He stood and moved towards Iceland. He wrapped his arms around Iceland, bringing him into a hug. "Ge-get away!" Iceland begin to struggle, crying harder, his fists pounding on Norway's chest. Norway wasn't releasing any time soon. Once Iceland's punching had stopped, and his struggling had ceased, Norway spoke. "You're right. I have been treating you like a child by bugging you about calling me 'big brother' and telling me you love me and... I'm sorry." Iceland's eyes went wide. Did he just... apologize?  Norway released Iceland, and gripped his shoulders, staring him right in the eyes. "But whether you like it or not, we are still brothers and you'll always be my little brother." Iceland understood Norway's words. He was right, they are blood, and nothing can ever change that. Nothing. Not even his arrogance can change the brotherly bond they shared when they were younger up until now. "Norway... I'm sorry for being such a rass holuI do consider you my brother, its jus-" Norway stopped him by releasing his shoulders, and ruffling his silver hair. "You don't have to explain Iceland. I undestand that you are still growing up. You really are still a child on the inside, huh?" "No I'm not!" Norway smiled and walked towards the door, his hands dug deep in his pockets. "I'm still waiting for that 'big brother' you know." And with that, the Norwegian left Iceland to himself.

-----------------

"Aww Norge! We are really gonna miss you, bro!" Denmark hugged Norway in a tight and almost unbearable hug. Finland came downstairs with Sweden who was carrying Norway's duffle bag that would last him the months of war. Finland wiped his eyes as Norway was handed the bag. "We really are gonna miss you Norway. Please be careful, and try not to get shot." Finland pleaded. Norway gave a small smile and nodded. "I'll try not to. Now then... where is my brother?" As if on cue, Iceland runs down the stairs. He is clutching something in his hand. "There you are, I was wondering wh-" "You better be careful." Iceland interupted. "You... better come home safe." he added with a slight blush. Norway opened his mouth to say something, but before he could the scrape of paper Iceland was clutching was shoved in his face. "Here," he mumbled. "Take it, and don't open it until you're far away from me." Norway grasped the scrape and nodded. "I'll try not to peek." he said playfully. "I mean it Norway! Don't open it until you are far away from me!" Sweden opened the door and gave the norwegian a brisk nod. Norway grabbed his bag and slung it over his left shoulder. He gave the nordics a reassuring look before he turned and walked into the cold winter air.

Norway trudged on, his boots already filling up with snow. Don't open it until you are far away from me! Iceland's instuctions drifted its way into Norway's mind. "Well... I don't see your ugly face anymore." he jokingly muttered. He reached into his pocket and pulled out the scape of paper. He carefully unfolded it and stared at it. It was a picture of all the nordics. Judging by the color of the photograph, this must've been taken at least fifteen years ago. He smiled and felt creases on the back. He turned the photo over and read the note that was in Iceland's handwriting. "Come back safe."  was written on the top, and then in tiny letters at the bottom that Norway could barely even make out, it read: "I love you, big brother." Norway sighed and put the photo back into his military breast pocket. "Good enough for me." he whispered to himself, and he continued on to his long journey to war.
