Niall's POV__________

"Don't you dare do that to me again," I say quietly into her ear. This beautiful girl was destroyed, torn apart by her own family. She's scared, angry.

"Okay," is all she answers with as we sit outside, her in my arms, my hand playing with her long brown hair. She looks up at me with her shining brown eyes. I look at her sternly, she nearly scared me to death. I look around us and notice the many flesh-eating monsters that wandered around, some getting nearer to us.

I grab the knife that Lacey had drop and stand. With my loose hand, I grab her arm and help her up. I motion her behind me, trying to not catch the attention of the dead. She slides behind me careful and I swing my loose hand around her making sure that she's always there. I hold onto her arm and we advance, walking back toward the house.

Once we make it we run up the small steps and into what used to be my mother's old home. She left me here when I was 14 and never came back. I miss her, but I made it without her.

We step inside and Liam runs to Lace and encloses her in a giant hug. "Don't ever do that again," he tells her the same thing I did. She nods in return.

"Where's Luke?" she asks when they separate and Liam points to the last room in the little hallway. She walks down the hallway and into the room. I walk back into the kitchen and grab an almost rotted banana from the bowl on the counter and commence to eat it. I hear a thump on the window behind me and immediately turn to see what the noise was. I see a young man banging on the window. He seems to be my age and in a panic. I run to the front door and outside with the knife Lacey used in my hand.

I run to the side of the house, expecting to meet a panicking boy, but instead am greeted with the barrel of a gun.

"I need food," the boy says and I carefully slide the unseen knife in my back pocket. I raise both hands and glare at the boy's face. "I need food!" he repeats himself and I don't move at all. He will not go inside with a gun. "Fine," he says and advances toward me. He grabs me under the neck with his forearm and I am slid into a chokehold. I don't fight him because he has a gun. The barrel of the gun is then propped against my head and it is cold. He gives me enough room to breath but that's all.

We move to the house the gun still against my head and anger rises inside of me, but what could I do?

On entry into the house, I look down the hallway making sure that Lacey doesn't come out. There isn't anyone in the living room of my home and I pray no one comes in. They'll fight for me and he'll kill them. He walks me to a room which I know as the kitchen. He lets me go and pushes me toward the cabinets. "Food, now," he says the gun still pointed at me. I wonder about what I should do. I walk toward the cabinet and grab three cans of fruit. I remember the knife I had in my pocket. Had he seen it? I reach back to see where it was, but find that it was hidden by my shirt.

The cans of fruit still in my hands, I slowly walk back to him. "More," he says quietly.

"There is no more," I answer, knowing that there are tons of cans in the lower cabinets, thanks to Lace.

"Don't lie to me!" he yells and I pray no one heard. He raises the gun. "Give me the food or you're dead," he says threateningly. I walk closer to him. He stands by the table, so I go to lay the cans on the table. I sit them down and reach into my back pocket. I grab the hilt of the knife and slash a big gash in the boy's stomach.

As he falls he screams in pain and shoots twice into the air. One bullet skims across my forehead and I yelp in pain. Blood rushes down my face and into my eye. I crouch behind the table so the boy doesn't shoot again.

I hear footsteps come from every direction and I curse.

"Niall!" I hear Lacey scream my name. I can hear the panic in her voice. I have to let her know I'm alive.

"I'm fine!" I yell and I hear the gun go off.
