He walked me to his black mustang and opened the door for me.
"Thanks," I murmured. He slightly nodded his head as he jogged to the drivers door. He got in, starting the car and I watched as the car roared to life.
"I'm hungry," he said as he pulled out of the parking lot. I looked at him for a split second, not knowing if I'm supposed to respond or not. So I didn't. We sat in silence for a few moments. "Are you?" He asked me as if he was speaking to an infant.
"No, I'm good," I said.
"Well, too bad. I know you're hungry. The only thing you ate for lunch was an apple. Also you just passed out and I think food will do you some good."
"Um..." I was frozen in shock. I wasn't expecting him to respond that way.
"We're going to get pizza. You like pizza, right?"
"Yeah, but I don't have money on me and I have food at home." I didn't want him to be worried about me, no one else bothered to. So why should he?
"Don't be crazy, I'll pay for you. I was planning on it. And besides I'm not taking no for an answer," he said in a soft yet stern tone of voice. I just sat there, drowning in my thoughts.
He doesn't even know me, he just met me not even 24 hours ago. Why would he care whether I was fed or not? And why is he so nice to me? Aren't I just another burden for him, he's babysitting me when he could be having fun or whatever people do. As my thoughts were swallowing me whole, I felt a hand softly touch my shoulder.
I jumped away for the hand and left out a quiet squeak. "Sorry, I have been calling your name for a good minute but you weren't responding. We're here," Aiden said apologetically.
I opened the car door and stepped out. I look up to see that we were at Pizza Hut. I closed my door and silently waited for Aiden.
We walked towards the restaurant and Aiden held the door for me. I walked in, the scent of pizza hitting me.
I haven't been here for a while. The feeling of happiness washed over me, I remember when my family and I used to dine here. And just like that, the happiness was gone. My family is no longer a family.
I followed Aiden towards a table. I sat across from him, keeping my head low. I feel incredibly awkward, I don't know what to say or do.
"Hi, I'm Katrina and I'll be your server today, what can I get for you two?" I looked up to see a brunette waitress staring at us. "Um, can we get the all you can eat pizza?" Aiden said. He looked at me,"What would you like to drink?"
"Water please," I said so quietly, I don't think the waitress or Aiden even heard me. "Can I also get two waters," Aiden asked nicely. I guess he did hear me.
"Sure, no problem," Katrina said in a kind voice. "I be back with you're drinks soon." She walked towards the kitchen, I'm guessing.
"You don't talk much do you?"
I look up to see Aiden giving me an intense look. I shake my head no.
"So," he said slowing dragging out the word, "how're you feeling?"
"I'm feeling fine, thank you,"
"I asked how you were feeling, why are you thanking me?"
"I was thanking you for staying with me at the nurses office, I don't think it would have been fun walking up clueless," I slightly chuckle out.
Realization swept across Aiden's face, "oh, no problem really, anytime."
The waitress walked up to our table holding two glasses of water and gently sets them down. "Here you go, you can get your pizza at the bar right over there and I'll check up on you in a few minutes to see how you two are doing."
Aiden stood up, "come on lets go get some pizza!" I let out a quiet giggle but listened anyways. I stood up and followed him to the bar. We both grabbed a plate, got some pizza, and walked back to the table.
"You got plain cheese pizza?" Aiden asked.
"Yeah." Why would he ask that?
"That's so boring, besides it doesn't taste as good as mine," he slightly smiled. I think he only said that to start a conversation with me and I'm glad he cared enough to try.
"What!" I exclaimed quickly, "cheese pizza is so good. It's just cheese, what's better than plain cheese?"
Aiden looked at me like I killed a puppy. "I highly disagree, you can have cheese pizza just add some flavor. You can put pepperoni, sausage, or anything!" I couldn't tell if he was messing with me or he was actually serious about this.
"Ok," I said cautiously.
"So how's your plain pizza," he asked.
"It's very good, actually. Nothing's better than plan cheese pizza," I said just to mess with him.
"Do you want more or are you good?" I wanted to eat more because I don't know when I'll be able to eat pizza again.
"Sure." He stood up and I followed quickly after. I grabbed two more slices as did he. For the next few minutes we lightly chatted.
Before I knew it we were walking out the door towards the car.
