Troye looked in the mirror checking his outfit. He wore a his dark skinny jeans, a maroon tank top, and a black foe leather jacket. He slipped on his black converse platform shoes and walked down stairs. His mother and father were in the kitchen at the table which made Troye's stomach feel uneasy.
"I'm gonna go out." Troye announced to his parents.
"Okay but not too late." Shaun informed.
"Yeah, whatever." Troye stormed out the door, after getting keys, and hopped into the car. He drove off to his school determined to clear up information with Jacob.
Once he reached his destination he hopped out of the car, and walked up the steps of the school. The hallways were creepily silent, which Troye was not used to because of the usual loud, hectic demeanor during the school day.
He approached Jacob's classroom door and apprehensively opened it to see Jacob sitting at his desk in front of the classroom doing paperwork.
Jacob heard the door creak open and looked up to see Troye's head peak in.
"You told me you went to Hollis." Jacob said without a 'hello' or 'how are you'.
"No." Troye argued. "I said I was thinking of majoring in English."
"Look. I think you're amazing Troye. When I first met you I thought 'who is this guy?'." Jacob shook his head, feeling betrayed.
"I'm still that same guy, okay? Nothing has changed!" Troye walked over to Jacob and intwined their fingers.
"Yes, yes it has." Jacob looked up. "I'm your teacher!"
"I know it's not just me! You feel something too." Troye said in a desperate tone.
"It's not right." Jacob stated. Troye knew that was the end of the discussion. "We just can't."
Jacob ripped his hand away and stood up. He walked towards the door and left, leaving Troye to alone in an empty classroom.
Troye left the school feeling defeated, and hurt. How could Jacob give up on their relationship that quickly, if you would even count it as a relationship.
He drove home fighting back the tears. His eyes were puffy and red, and his face was flushed. He parked the car, without a scratch, and walked up to the house. He silently opened the door, careful not to let his parents hear knowing that they are very good at sensing when things aren't right. He tiptoed to the family room to see his dad sitting on the couch with a bottle of red wine in his hand while his mom searched through boxes.
"Found them!" Laurelle exclaimed pulling out two wine glasses. Both parents didn't realize their son eavesdropping of their conversations. Laurelle sat back on the couch, next to her husband, hiding something behind her back. "Look what else I found." She said as she pulled out a puppet pig."
"Oh, Troye used to drag that thing everywhere!" Shaun remembered. Laurelle laughed happily. "I think you're glad to be back."
"You're not?" Laurelle frowned.
She poured he husband a glass of wine.
"I haven't decided yet." Shaun sighed.
"You and Troye are so alike. I don't think he's happy to be home either." Laurelle sighed.
"I know. It was like a vacation from real life." He explained. "I just feel like we really bonded on that trip."
"Well we had to connect," Laurelle giggled. "We didn't know anybody."
"I don't want to lose that."
"You really think we will?" Laurelle questioned.
"It's just easy for stuff to get in the way." Shaun commented. Troye rolled his eyes at this comment.
"What kind of stuff?" Laurelle pressed further.
"You know I'm really surprised he brought that with us." Shaun distracted by referring back to the puppet.
"Well he loves it because you gave it to him." Laurelle smiled.
"What kind of stuff could get in the way?" Laurelle said not letting the conversation drop that easy.
"Oh nothing!" Shaun brush the topic off. "You know me, I just get a little too overly excessive."
Laurelle felt relieved.
"We're good Laurelle." Shaun lied. "We're all good."
Troye rolled his eyes one last time before turning around and stomping up the stairs.
