Recap: Just as the presentation comes to an end, the teachers asks, "What inspired Veronica Roth to write her debut novel Divergent?"

It's a simple question, but he doesn't seem to know the answer. "Rose knows it," he says, and everyone starts staring at me. I'm like a dear in headlights.
Immediately I get up and run out the room. I can't stand it when I'm put on the spot like this.
---

I run out of the room tears streaming down my face. He promised! He shouldn't have done that. Why did I even trust him? What was I thinking?

I pass rows upon rows of lockers until I hear Max's voice calling my name, but I don't want to speak to him. I ignore his voice and make a sharp right into the girls' bathroom.

A few seconds later, my phone buzzes so I pull it out only to see it's a text from Max. He's not worth my time, I think as I shove my phone back into my pocket. I must be an idiot for not seeing this coming. He's friends with Mason. For all I know, he could be manipulating my mind to think he's on my side, but in all reality he's on his.

My phone vibrates again interrupting my thoughts. I pull it out to see that it's another text from Max.

LEAVE ME ALONE!!! I reply without reading what he sent me. Then I text Lily. Can I ride home with you and your friends? I really don't wanna deal with Max right now.

A few minutes later, I get a reply from Lily. Sure. Is everything alright?

I don't feel like talking about it right now. But is there any chance you could get Max away from the girls' bathroom by room 155? I've been trapped in here, and Max is probably just outside the door waiting for me to leave.

Immediately, I get a reply from her. You're in the bathroom?! Stop letting guys chase you into the bathroom. I know I'm here now... but what are you going to do after I graduate. I can't be your protector forever...
