"Hey Cinder, help me wash my feet! And where's my tea? How useless you are!" Grisella's shout rang out.
Cinderella sighed. "Coming," In these short week, she had already changed from a stepsister and stepdaughter to a maid. Every time Jacob was out running an errand, her stepmother and stepsister treated her like a slave. The wouldn't dare do it in front of Jacob though, for the fear that he would divorce with the stepmother.
A week ago, she simply couldn't imagine how this family would turn out as a terrible one, but now...
She had already tried to complain about her step-s to Jacob, but he just wouldn't listen. He even talked to her stepmother and when he wasn't home, she abused Cinderella even more.
Each day, Cinderella lived with fear and sadness. Grisella took her room for herself so Cinderella had to sleep near the fireplace.
"Faster, you lazy mutt! Where have you been?" Grisella yelled as Cinderella came into the room with a huge pail of water.
As Grisella took off her shoes, Cinderella nearly fainted at the sight and smell of the feet. But complaining wouldn't do much good so she tried to hold her breath and wash Grisella's feet.
It was astonishing how a daughter of a rich businessman would have to do such filthy work.
*Knock knock*
"Go open the door, Cider, and bring the person in." Grisella ordered.
Without a word, Cinderella went to the huge wooden door and opened it.
"Hail, message from the King!" As soon as the door was opened, a loud, clear voice of a messenger rang out.
"Please come in," Cinderella whispered and led the messenger into the house and into the room.
The messenger had big eyes and a pointed nose, which made him look quite funny. On his head he wore a powdered wig and powder kept falling from his wig. In a deafening voice he read from the scroll in a monotone, "Hail, message from the king! The ladies in this household are hereby invited to attend a ball in which Prince Charming would choose his future wife. All the women who lives in this household is eligible. Remember to be punctual as it starts tomorrow at 8:00. It is located in the palace and will last for two days." He paused, squinting at the scroll," The women are required to wear a ball gown or they will not be permitted to enter the ballroom." "I strongly advise you to attend it" He quickly added.
With this he marched out of the room and out of the house.
As soon as he left, Grisella jumped up and down with glee. "Hooray! I'll definitely be the best princess in the country!! You're not allowed to go though," she looked down at Cinderella.
Cinderella shrugged and looked away, her look distant.

Cinderella sobbed and wept in her room. Why wasn't she allowed to go? This was the only chance for her to change her future! She didn't want to be the step-s' slave anymore! She couldn't bear it!
Actually there was a old ball gown her father had bought for her birthday in her closet. But since she wasn't allowed to go, that wouldn't be much use, would it? Cinderella burst into tears again, swept into her sea of sadness.
