"Michael I know you really don't want to talk right now," said Detective Olsen, " but I need you to answer these questions."
I couldn't say anything. It hurt so bad. I didn't want to believe him, but something told me I had to. So, I simply nodded my head.
"Okay, so have your parents ever left you home for more than a day. Perhaps a week."
I nodded my head, yes. A strange question but I had no reason to lie to him.
"When your parents were home, did they ever ask you strange questions? For instance: when's your birthday? How old are you? Do you know your last name?"
I looked up at him in shock. I nodded and somehow found my voice again.
"Yes, they did"I said
"Mmhmm, and this may be an awkward question, but do you have any friends here, Michael."I was about to list off some people but I realised I know nobody at this school. I've been here for almost a year and i know no one.
"Michael" he said
"I-I, no I don't. I moved here last year and i still don't have any friends." I choked up. How can I not have friends?
"Michael can you recall anything from your childhood."I was gonna say something like playing in mud or building a tree house with my dad, but something in the back of my head asked,What if he's not your real father?
I could feel the tears on my face. I don't even know who i am. I start shaking my head.
"Michael I need you to come with me" the detective said," I'll explain more in the car." I nodded my head in agreement. I didn't know where I was going but I didn't care either. I felt numb and out of place here. Who am i?
