This book is dedicated to every friend I've ever had. The friends that I met when I was little and still know today, the ones who I've only just met but still love, the ones who had to leave, the ones who I had to leave, the ones who I thought were my friends, the ones who made me laugh and the friends who made me cry, and the ones who bugged me to write this book until I gave in.
Friends will change you. They will play with your feelings and test your ability to not laugh during class. At times, you want to strangle them and other times you smile in their embrace. Sometimes they break you and build you back up. You will weep and laugh differently each time.
When they break you and don't bother to put you back together, find a friend who will. When they do, they will use their own building blocks for support. You will be a structure able to stand on your own two feet with your friends there to teach you how. Don't go back to friends who only break. Those friends only know how to break themselves, too.
When you find a friend who uses their building blocks for you, stay with them. When that friend is broken themselves, use some of your own to repair the damage.
You will be hurt by those who are not really your friends. You will tell yourself that you are fine, you will tell others that you are fine. You will know that you are not. With real friends, you will no longer have to lie.
Cherish your friends. Keep them close if they build you. Push them away if they break you. When you find someone who does not have a friend, become theirs. You will not know how the friendship will end. You will not know how the friendship will change you. But life is about taking chances.
Chances are our friends.
