My Dream
My years are getting older, and my wisdom continues to grow.
There are dreams that I now wish for, to complete before I get old.
Not by a genie but on my own;
Are four wishes in my heart that I hope to come true.
1. To speak power into the young,
Fill their minds with knowledge worth more than gold.
Re-spark the flame that once designated in their eyes
That once kept a smile—so unmovable—on their face,
Before their innocence was erased and their smiles were left defaced.
2. To understand that the rate at which the pages are turned are in my control.
I want to leave regret behind, rather than carry it into tomorrow.
I will be sure to burn the phrases "too late" away except when the word "never" is put into play.
3. To elevate my mind far beyond this earth so that I will know my truth rather than be told it.
I wish to be the voice of reason in a crowded room.
To obtain the kind of knowledge that could touch the sun,
So maybe I could one day teach my son, that wisdom that can't be taught.
4. To be the light that illuminates the darkest tunnels.
I want to be the Sheppard to the sheep, the eyes to the blind and the strength for the weak.
I will show the quitters that the race has yet to end,
Rather--it has just begun.
So as you can see, I have dreams turning into reality,
And have made promises, too deep
But too deep doesn't mean impossible.
And in that case,
On your mark,
Get set,
Go.
