It's funny how quick a person's entire outlook on life can change within minutes, or seconds even. Vine Wisp the middle child in the Wisp family, daughter of Derek and Serene, sister of Melody and Forest. friend of Justin, (and later on my aunt). Vine was a girl who never questioned the world until a her world did a one eighty in just time frame of car crash.
Vine loves to reminisce in the past of her happy childhood, and wishes that she could relive the past frequently. Her outlook on life began to shift the day of her fifth birthday were trouble began to follow her around every corner. It was at a restaurant her family booked, and all her classmates were present. It was a large yet cozy restaurant with warm lighting, and eye-catching entertainment.
Vine's dad, Derek, walked up to her with a pat on the shoulder as he said, "Hey my birthday girl, you all ready for the party."
Vine bounces up and down, "Yeah of course Dad, I've been waiting!" Young Vine was a ecstatic as she was all dressed up for the occasion with a purple dress, and here black hair pulled up into an elaborate bun.
Derek chuckled at his daughters antics, "Okay, okay. Get ready I'm about to open the door." As the doors open the room was soon flooded with children along with their parents. Vine was known to be quite the popular girl in school, yet wasn't particularly close to anyone. She was known for her rich parents along with her above average performance in school. While Vine was popular because of her parents it was like playing with a double edge sword when it came to her friendships. Of coarse, Vine was still too young to completely notice or understand this concept at that point in time. The party was set up to be perfect by her caring parents; however, a certain earthquake had different plans in mind.
It was hectic, the chances of a large earthquake was almost impossible were they lived, and it happened so suddenly. The cake was put out and the children had happily gathered around the table when it suddenly began to shake. Serene, Vine's mom, was first to notice, "Everyone duck and cover!"Parents quickly ensured the safety of the children as the tremors got more violent. Vine felt frozen in fear as shivers crawled down her spine.
Suddenly, a young boy with blond hair and glasses grabbed onto Vine's wrist, "Come on!" He pleas Vine with his baby blue eyes to listen to him. Vine was soon pulled under the safety of a table with the help of the boy with glasses. Tears flowed out from her brown eyes as she heard the other kids screams mixed with shattering glass. Her day was ruined along with her beautiful hair and dress.
****************
Vine was upset about the event for days it took the entire family's effort to cheer her up. After a while it wasn't just an earthquake that troubled Vine's young mind. It too soon until Vine known as the symbol of bad luck around the school. Small events of misfortune surrounded her being on a minuscule scale of someone tripping to the larger scale of furniture breaking. By the age of ten everyone began to avoid Vine, and she no longer had any friends. The one exception to that was the blond haired boy from the earth quake, Justin. He was the only one that stuck around with her despite of all the rumors the other kids spread about them. Vine's social life quickly switched from the popular girl to the out cast.
Besides Justin, Vine relied on her family especially her siblings. Forest was six years older than Vine which made him sixteen at the time, and her sister Melody is four years younger which made her six. Since Melody was still so young Vine found a deeper connection with Forest between the two. Vine saw Forest as someone who was wiser than both her parents combined, and more often went to him for advice than her own parents.
"Don't let them get to you Vine, they're not worth your time." Forest ruffles her black hair.
Vine looks up at her big brother's green eyes in doubt, "But they're really mean. What happened? They used to like me?" Vine feels the cool breeze of the night wind brush against her exposed skin as she awaited her brothers answer.
Forests looked at Vine with concern as he pushed his light brown hair out of his face, "Some people...they're... they're just jerks like that. Reality is.... that most of those friends just wanted you for the money Vine. It's gonna get worse in high school, just don't let affect you, and no matter what don't change for them. You'll find out who you're true friends are."Forest struggled to find the right words as his eyes switch from the night sky to his little sister. Forest hated the fact that Vine was already struggling with other kids. Vine has already started to have breakdowns at such a young age, and he knew that must have a major impact on her mental health. Forest didn't start to feel like Vine at least till the age twelve when he entered middle school, so to see her already under such social pressure worried him.
Vine gave out a sigh, "I just feel lonely."
"Being lonely from time to time is not a bad thing Vine. Plus, you're not alone, you have me, Melody, mom, dad, and even that blond kid. What was his name? Justin." Forest tried to reassure her, and lift up her spirits.
Vine looked down at the grass with a small smile etched onto her face. As she was about to thank her brother the sound of the door opening interrupted her. The two sibling turned their heads to the sound to see their kind mother smile at them, "It's cold outside you two. Come inside, and get ready for bed."
The two kids follow their parent command as they head inside the house. Before the two separated too their own rooms Forest gave one last pat on the back, "Stay strong Vine. You'll be okay." With that Vine watched her supportive brother disappear off into his room.
