Kara hovers high above the hospital just taking in the air and view around her. She smiles softly at all the cars and people bustling down below her in the streets of Seattle. She glances over to her left to see the space needle and smiles sadly as she imagines little Lexie growing up here.

Little Lexie with pigtails and braces. Little Lexie learning to ride a bike, loosing her first tooth, growing up in a little house with a cat or a dog, going to school, just growing up. Kara even chuckles when she imagines little Lexie kicking ass on the playground when someone insults her. Little Lexie growing up into the kickass grownup Lexie she knows now.

Kara sighs sadly as she carefully flies herself down to the ground, hiding behind a dumpster where no one can see her. She adjusts her glasses and her skirt as she makes her way back inside.

Kara lets out a loud yawn as she pushes the 'UP' arrow on the elevator, wondering when the last time she actually slept was. She laughs when she can't remember. Kara jumps when the elevator 'dings' and she walks inside as she waits patiently for the door to close but just before it close, an arm slides it's way through the doors causing the doors to open again.

Kara gasps and nervously adjusts her glasses as she stands up straight to face the person whose entering the elevator with her, Meredith Grey. The one person Kara has tried to avoid since they've been here. Only exchanging "hi's" and "hellos's" in passing.

Meredith steps into the elevator and leans against the opposite wall as Kara. Kara continues to nervously play with her glasses as she avoids eye contact with the older woman in the elevator with her.

Meredith smirks softly at the girl. "Are u going up? Or are we going to stand her all day?" she asks teasingly.

Kara panics and quickly hits the button to Alex's floor. "S-sorry. what floor?"

Meredith laughs. "same as you" she says crossing her arms and studying the nervous girl in front of her. "Kara. You don't have to avoid me you know?" she asks softly.

Kara glances up at her. "I-I know. I just didn't know what to say to you. I mean You know her. The real her." Kara admits quietly.

Meredith smiles and walks toward Kara, she leans in and hits the "STOP" button to stop the elevator and turns back toward Kara. "A few years ago, You would have been right about me knowing her. But now. Now i have no earthly idea who she is anymore." she admits sadly.

Kara smiles. "she's the same Lexie. But she's just Alex now, with shorter hair and a girlfriend."

Meredith lets out a smile and a chuckle. 'yes, the girlfriend thing does shock me. But she's a whole other person still, she has a different name and job. And family." Meredith says tears filling her eyes.

Kara frowns. "That all is true. But when she came to live with us she never stopped feeling guilty or sad about what she left behind her. I used to find her crying in her room after she changed her name and cut her hair. She just sat there and held her old ID in her hand sobbing and apologizing for what she had done. That was the day she finally opened up and told me everything. How she got offered a once in a lifetime opportunity and how it cost her everything."

Meredith listens intently with tears leaking down her face. "She faked her death. We had a memorial for her. And she was alive the hold time. How do I even begin to explain how that makes me feel? And when i saw her. Laying there looking helpless and...alive. I-I felt so relieved yet heartbroken because there my sister was, alive. Alive and with a completely different life. A completely different sister." she says with a shaky breath.

Kara exhales heavily as she listens to the woman who is Alex's blood related sister.

"No offense to you or anything. You seem so so sweet and protective of Lexie and she needs that. It's just the fact she's my sister. But she's not my sister." Meredith says rubbing her head in frustration.

Kara adjusts her glasses and softly bits her lip nervously as places her hand onto Meredith's shoulder. "You're are still her sister. You're her real sister. The one who knew her better than anyone else knew her, She told me that you were always there for her and I believe that. Because you have trapped me in and elevator to talk about Lexie, because your curious about me and about Alex. Or maybe i've got it all wrong and Your going to actually kill me in here??" Kara says laughing nervously and trying to lighten the mood.

Meredith wipes away her tears as she laughs whole heartedly. "No. I'm not going to kill you...yet." she says with a teasing wink toward Kara. "But no, i just wanted to talk to you. I've been avoiding you too because I didn't want to give u a chance. But here you are and you're so easy to talk too, and you're strong, and beautiful and u seem so so smart and protective. And Lexie, or Alex, needs you in their life. And I'm glad she has you. Like I told Mark, I may not be thrilled that she did this. But she's happy. She has maggie, a fresh start, and a happy little family that loves her. And she's happy. And she deserves happiness." Meredith says softly meeting Kara's eyes.

Kara feels tears slip down her cheeks. "I. When she came to live with us. I found her crying in her room holding onto her old ID. She would just cry for hours about how sad and bad she felt. I would hold her and not understand what she meant. I even went with her to cut her hair off and I never asked questions. Until one night she came to me and just told me everything. How she got offered an opportunity of a life time, or how she faked her death. I listened to every detail and just wondered what would happen if I ever saw her other sister. I worried that you would take her away. Because your her blood related sister. But here we are, in an elevator and I just want to learn everything from you." Kara admits softly. "I never had any siblings when I came here, i mean growing up, but then she came to live with us and that changed my life. I know it's only been 5 years, but it feels like we grew up together. She's my sister. Blood or not." Kara says wiping her tears away.

Meredith smiles sadly and pulls Kara into a hug. "You are her sister. You welcomed her, took her in, treated her like the amazing and incredible human that she is. I know for a fact she couldn't have handled this change well without someone by her side. And that person was you, Kara. You protected and supported and love her. And that's what sisters' do. And I would love to get to know you better too, Kara."

Kara squeezes Meredith back as tightly as she can (without hurting her) and cries into her shoulder. "Thank you for accepting me into your family." She says her voice heavy with tears.

Meredith smiles and pulls away from Kara and wipes her eyes.
"You're a part of Alex's family. And that makes you a part of my family. Just don't hurt her, okay?" She says.

Kara smile at her whole heartedly as she wipes her tears. "Pinky promise I won't hurt her." She says holding out her pinky.

Meredith watches her with a smile at the child like gesture and laces her pinky with Kara's.
"Let's go see OUR sister, okay?" She says hitting the button causing the elevator to take them to their smiling sisters hospital room, a weight for both of them lifted off of their shoulders.
