I rushed into the meeting with my keys in hand and my dignity gone. I knew that if I show up there late I will be shunned for the rest of time. Placing my hand on the extravagant doorknob of the big glass door to my meeting's entryway. I took a deep breath.
As I expected people's heads turned toward me wondering why I arrived late. The lead designer which was a tall old man with astonishingly white hair didn't seem to notice as he was setting up his computer.
In terror I then realized that I forgot to share "my" design with the Design Leader. Gazing around the room I noticed it was entirely made out of glass and white objects. This was one of the most elegant rooms I have ever seen, with four walls and giant open windows it made my heart skip a beat. I took a seat at a round table surrounded by what looked like fifteen people. They all looked very smart, sophisticated, and ready to take over the world. Intimidated, I opened up my laptop and shared "my" design.
"Okay lets get started here." the Design Leader spoke, "Looks like I finally got all the assignments in hand. Good morning designers my name is Mr. Latson I am the Board Leader as you all may know. I called everyone to this meeting to share and present their pitches and by that I mean graphics to me. At the end of the presentation I'm going to be choosing the most promising designs and forming a team to work on an assignment, clear?"
Mr. Latson looked at the round table, with no response he gazed at a piece of paper and called out a name.
"Resa Carlson!"
A tall girl with dark brown hair and dark blue eyes stood up and walked over to the computer, she found her file and clicked the design so we could all view it. It was a drawn picture of a moth but it was viewed in black and white and the only color on the insect was it's dark green eyes. The moth also seemed to be chewing on a piece of ribbon. An interesting concept, sure it looks like a furry piece of lint with a ribbon attached but it was very beautifully drawn.
"Hello everyone, my name is Resa Carlson and this is my presentation, I drew a cat chewing on a ribbon..." her voice traveled on discussing her presentation.
Okay so the object in front of me was not a moth but a cat, that makes a lot more sense. Resa finished her presentation and Mr. Latson sighed.
"Unfortunately I couldn't tell whether this... creature in front of me was a cat or lint. Your strokes seem a little too incomprehensible and your idea seems to have no purpose. Next." Mr. Latson criticized.
Terrified of what he is going to comment toward my own presentation which consists of blue and black swirls with green silhouettes that I got from a magazine and altered, I sank down in my chair and listened to the upcoming presentations.
"Timmy Hank," Mr. Latson read the name out loud.
A guy with short black hair went up to the computer and clicked on his file opening up a beautiful picture of a bicycle with paint splattered wheels.
"Hello everyone my name is Timmy Hank and I'm going to be showing my presentation. I chose this concept because this demonstrates on how life is just a bicycle ride." Timmy Hank presented as once again, Mr Latson sighed.
"I disagree with your statement and the color splash on the bike is unnecessary." said Mr. Latson followed by the word,"Next"
"Cory Lightens."
Still shaking I walked around the huge round table and finally made it to the computer. Clicking my blue file in the top right corner the smart board at the head of the table loaded. The image popped up as expected: containing blue and green swirls and other geometric shapes with a small black awkward smudge on the left hand side.
"Wait a minute." said Mr. Latson making his way toward the board," Is that a... watermark?"
Heads turned. I heard quite gasps being exclaimed the room stood still.
"D.R. Wright? Oh I know him isn't he from that Food Magazine? Oh astonishing! Is this piece inspired by him?" asked Mr. Latson.
"Y-yes." I stuttered with disbelief. " Hello everyone my name is Cory Lightens, this is my presentation. There are two silhouettes both with a road in front of them but as you can see, for one person the road is straight and crystal clear and for the other person the road seems swirly and jagged. I created this piece to show how even though we are all on the same journey, that journey is often perceived differently to other people."
I listened closely for a sigh, but one didn't come. Relieved I straightened out my shoulders and stood confidently.
"Excellent presentation Ms. Lightens. Very considerate of you that you put a watermark on the edge of the screen. Very interesting concept, take a seat." Mr. Latson said.
I stood there in shock for a minute before making my way to my desk. Everyone was giving me a mixture of dirty or shocked looks I felt like I was in the Hunger Games. This atmosphere was very competitive.

After twelve presentations were shown, the meeting concluded.
"Thank you everyone who submitted their presentations there are some very promising designs out there, now comes the time where I announce the design team that will help me with an assignment." Mr Latson said as he put on his glasses and read from a paper.
" Jessica Gorgoza, Cory Lightens , Weston Blue, and Philip Green. Join me in the board room next door. The rest of you, have a nice day." Bluntly spoke Mr. Latson.
Everyone in the room seemed to grunt, closing their laptops and going toward the door. I heard two guys talking to each other.
"Wow I can't believe we made it, I barely tried at all. Honestly I think I was half asleep when I made this. This is blowing my mind", the blonde guy said.
"Oh can it. I better wish we hadn't made it, if we do bad on this assignment it's the end of our careers", the dark brown haireed guy spoke.
"Seriously? 'Can it'? What 90's movie are you watching." muttered the blonde guy.
I began to feel a chill down my spine for I just learned that this assignment will be huge. Sighing, I ignored the facts I just learned and continued walking to the board room.
