i woke up to Buck cuddling up to my neck. I buried my face in his soft back. light flooded my room and made it difficult to open my eyes. i pushed myself off my bed and notice a bright pink note on my door. i noticed Heather's caligraphy 'Jaycee Rae, Jonathan and i are going to run some erunds please wake your sister and feed her and the animals, please dont destroy the house. be back around dinner, xoxo Heather and Jonathan.'
i opened my door leaving the note hanging on my door. "Buck! come on!" with that he jumped off the bed and followed on my heels. i knocked on Rory's door lightly, "Rory.., time to wake up" i siad in a soft voice. she pulled the covers over her head. "Rory come on its eight we need to feed our pets." she groaned in responce. "you dont want Jonathan to take that kiten away now do you? if you dont take care of her he will." she sprang out of bed scooping up her sleepy kitten into her skinny arms and ran down the hall. I followed with Buck in my arms. when i entered the kitchen Rory had already climbed on the counter and was sitting on her knees infront of an open cabinet. For a six year old Rory looked deep in thought, trying to decide what flavor of cat food to feed her kitten. i put buck on the ground and grabbed Rory and set her down on the floor as well. looking over the options of cat nip i read off the list,"Tuna, chicken, liver, or turkey?"
"Tuna!" she exclaimed from behind me a smile evident in her voice. i almost handed her the can a Tuna flavored catfood then thought against it, a six year old with a cut is not something i wanted to deal with espeacially early in the morning. i opened the can and scooped half of it into Tilly's food bowl and placed it on the floor, she meowed in gratitude. i felt a small warm pressure on my calf, i looked down and saw Buck, his two month old paw on my leg. hungry puppy eyes stared into mine.
i gave Buck half of the can of dog food and sat on the couch as they eat. soon Rory bounched over to me "im hungry."
"There's cerel in the pantry." i countered closing my eyes. When i heard little feet walking toward the kitchen i followed the sound to the pantry. i stood behind Rory already knowing she'd grab the Fruity Pebbles. before she could grab the box i reached out and snatched it.
"Hey!"
"Hi," i calmly replied walking away to get a bowl. i set the pink plastic bowl down on the table and patted the seat. "Sit," i commanded not meanly, and she followed. I silently thanked God for a cooperative, well rested sister this morning. i poured the cereal in the bowl and grabbed a matching cup for her milk. she had a very picky taste. i filled the cup half way up and retired back to the couch. i was never much of a breakfast person so i just rested my eyes. Summer would be over soon, and then what? i had graduated early along with my bestfriend Railey. Heather wanted me to model for her upcoming shoeline. how could i turn that down? not because i liked being the center of attention and i ever wanted to be a model. but because Heather has given me so much, how do i tell her no for something so small?
Heather and Jonathan took me in as a scared little seventh grader. They were my foster parents so i reated them as strangers, i never listened to them. it wasnt until my freshman year when they brought in a beautiful one year old baby girl i realized i belonged there and it was my family. i was pulled away from my thoughts by a knock at the door. i walked with hast to answer in time. "Flowers for Jaycee Rae White." a young man with dark eye, pale skin and golden hair declared.
"that's me..." i said a hint of confusion hidden in my voice. he handed me the four crimson dahlias."Who are these from?" i asked.
"Anonymous." he said with a southern twang i didnt notice before and handed me the flowers.
"oh, thank you." i said taking the flowers and slowly closing the door. i walked back into the kitchen to grab a vase.
"Woah!" Rory yelled, "Who gave you those!" she asked with wide eyes.
