when i woke up i was in my room in the clothes i had been wearing the night before. except my shoes were off. I stretched and winced at the headache forming behind my eyes. I lay on my back monitoring my breath. In, two, three. Out, two, three. And again. I found Buck curled in a ball on the pillow next to the one beneath my head. His tail twitching in his dream, I kissed his small back. "come one,Buck." ears lifted and fell. "wake up you silly pup." One eye opened and shut. "breakfast time," with that the small white pile of fur began to stretch and shake the remains of sleep off and away from his body. i began to do the same when a loud human sceetch came outside my door. Rory.
I ran toward the noise,"Rory!"
"Sissy!" she cried back. i was terrified. something had my baby sister was all i could think. Something may not be hurting her, but it was scaring her and i had to get to her. when i reached the living room i saw what would haunt me forever. Ezra was holding Rory and Liza extended a long fingernail toward her face and was running it slowly down her cheek. Ash stood behind the couch watching, waiting, still staring. Jonathan crashed down the stairs only seconds before i did.
"Let her go!" i yelled. Ezra laughed which only made tears form in Rory's eyes. seeing the look on Rory's face broke my heart.
"Let her go!" Jonathan's voice boomed over mine. Ezra's smile faded.
"Just let her go" ash said from the corner of the room. Slowly Ezra lossened his grip and Liza backed away. i leaned down as Rory ran into my arms tears staining her face. i held her close and began to stroke her hair.
"Sh, pretty baby." i cooed as i stroked her hair, "you're okay. i got you now. hush pretty baby..."
