All eyes were on him. He shrugged away to the shadows as he chose a seat in the back of the room. He covered his dirty blond hair with his hood as we dismissed him. "Edward," the teacher asked. "You read for the first read, then pick someone to take your place when your done." he sighed, cleared his throat, and began.
His voice resembled shattered glass. It's depth and tone sent a shiver down my spine. His voice was so soothing it almost made me fall asleep. It gave me an indescribable feeling that seemed to last forever.
As he ended, I realized I didn't know anything about the story. I was listening as well as anyone else, but I got detracted. I realized slowly that I was listening to his voice, and not the story itself.
The bell rang and we fled to our lockers. I expected him to be crowded with people as new kids tend to be, but he was actually alone. I debated whether or not to talk to him. All of a sudden, my heart began to race, and I felt a cold rush. I didn't dare to turn around until the feeling passed.
I walked to his locker second guessingly. "Hey Edward," I called, as he turned to me, and his expression softened. "I hate it when people call me that. I feel like some guy from Twilight. Just call me Eddie, okay?" I forgot about his voice, and its power over me.
"Sorry," I said, cheeks red.
"No problem, It's alright. Did you need anything?" I shook my head, debating what to say. "Just wanted to talk."
He gave a cute half smile. "Alright, what did you wanna talk about?" He pulled back his hood for the first time, and I could see his face. His blond hair was messy now, and his blue eyes were like ice to his pale skin. I looked away as quick as I could so he wouldn't accuse me of stareing. I wanted to ask what school he came from, but words wouldn't allow it.
"Where are you from," I slurred.
"Hmm?" he said, now completely grinning. "Where are you from?"
"Pennsylvania." My mouth hung open."I know that I'm far from home, but it's not like I'm the first transfer. How 'bout you? Where you from?" he pulled his hoodie off over his head and replaced the hood with a navy blue knit cap, and revealed his grey T shirt. "New York."
"See, you're pretty far, too." I smiled.
My emotions got the best of me, and I said something I would rather not have said. "When you read earlier, your voice..." I realized what I had said, and swore to myself. "So you like when I talk like this, don't you" he joked, copying his voice from earlier.
"Stop," I said smiling.
"You didn't answer my question, now did you." He let out a laugh that gave me shivers.
"So, what's your name?"
"My name's Cristina, but my friends call me Criss."
"Cool. Wanna hang out at lunch? "
"Sure," I atmitted excitedly.
"Cool. I'll look for you when it's time. Nice to meet ya, Criss. See you at lunch." He put his class material in a bag, swung it over his shoulder, smiled, and walked away.
As my heart rate went back to normal and I started breathing again, I smiled and walked to my next class.
