Run.
That's was what processed through my mind.
Faster! He's coming!!
My legs pumped faster though my stamina was quickly dwindling. I wasn't sure how I was moving myself but just prayed that I wouldn't trip and fall. The distance between Him and I wasn't safe enough to rest just yet.
"Your not going to get away from me Ariel!" He yelled
His voice was rather...........distant, coming from my right. I ducked behind a large dog house, crouching to listen for him.
"No matter where you go I will find you" He promised.
He was speaking with ease yet I knew he didn't have a clue as to where my location was but that could change at any second if I didn't move fast.Glancing around I saw a tall fence enclosing a private residence. As fast as my legs could carry me I scramble up the dog house and over the fence where again I froze in place. My pursuers voice drifted off into the distance until I couldn't hear him any longer, confirming his loss of my trail. At least for now.
Dropping face first into the moist grass I finally allowed myself to catch my breath. The pain that had been dulled due to my adrenaline made an appearance forcing me into a fetal position on the ground, with uncontrollable tears.
"Mom..." I whimpered in the silent night. "I'm so sorry."
Flashes of my night appeared under my closed eye lids. My chest tightened until I could barely breathe. I didn't want to see the images but I couldn't escape them. The memory was forever engraved in my brain.
Walking into my home I saw a bloody blade lying next to my mother's limp body. My father smiling happily as he drunk from one of his many liquor bottles. He was famous for getting drunk beyond control and more than frequently beating on our family and this time.........
This time it had gone too far....
My mother was gone and I.....I was a refugee. I needed to get somewhere safe and plan out my next move, because if I knew my father........this wouldn't be over until one of us was dead.
