The cool crisp air blew so strong it ate through my shirt, giving a harsh sting on my pale skin. I shivered and looked back down at my book. I was getting used to the hard work that came with being an orphan but it was nice to be able to get away from it all and read. Reading was my escape. My favorite books were personal. Stories written by mom. Stories of a world called Wonderland. From what I head read it was amazing. Crazy hatters, Talking rabbits, beautiful white queens... but also insane, head chopping, evil red queens. Mother told of all her adventures and people she had met along the way. As a child I searched for the way in. A way to get away from the farm I was held captive as a worker orphan. I had always figured that when mother left... she went to Wonderland. But no... now that I was older I knew she had died. Mother had become greatly ill and died. Before she left she made sure to fill my head with bonkers stories of Wonderland. I wish it were true but I quickly came to the realization that it was all a myth.

I was deep in my book when Madam Eleanor screeched my name with her cracked, sour voice. I jumped and dropped my book into the mud. My book was ruined. The third book of Wonderland. My mother had wrote the stories in multiple books. Kind of like separate chapters but rather than that, separate books. I jumped down from the tree branch I was sitting on and grabbed my book. I stuffed it into my bag and ran through the field toward the large house where Eleanor stood in the doorway.
