Nicks POV

I sat in Harper's room a little stunned. I heard her rummaging around in the shower as I scrolled through my phone. This was already proving to be a difficult project for me. I had never been attracted to my "subjects" before she was clearly picking up on it.

I still couldn't get over this completely. I thought I would be hanging out with a little girl all summer and Harper was most definitely not a little girl. She was beautiful and smart and witty from what I could tell.

"Nick could you help me with this?" She asked finally emerging from the bathroom. Thankfully she was fully clothed in a pair of Jean shorts and a white shirt. She was holding a necklace together behind her neck.

"Sure." I said taking the two ends and clasping them together. "This is beautiful." I said admiring the pendant. It a diamond with three sapphires underneath it.

"Thank you. It was a Christmas gift from Lucas a few years ago. I figured they'll get suspicious of I'm not wearing it."

"Lucas is a lucky guy." I said.

"Lucas is a single guy." She laughed. "I broke up with him but haven't gotten the gumption to tell my parents yet."

"Seriously?" I said laughing a little. She was an adult but still scared of telling her parents. I had to keep most things in my life to myself so I guess I was used to not telling my family everything. "Why'd you break up?"

"Lucas is part of the royal family. He's wonderful but boring." She smiled. "I felt like we had already been married 20 years and I decided I didn't want to live like that."

I admired that. At least she knew what she wanted. I finished the necklace and followed her out of the room.

"That's too bad."

"Yeah. Don't say anything though. I'll tell them eventually I'm just not ready just yet." She smiled.

"Your secrets safe with me."

"Do you have a girlfriend Nick?"

"It's hard to keep a relationship with a job like the. No one really understands."

"No one except someone who lives it too." She winked at me as we entered the room where we would be eating.

She sat down and I stood by the door where I normally stayed during events like this.

"Join us, Nick!" President Ryan said gesturing to the seat next to him. He had a soft spot for me now since our last mission.

"It's so good to have you home." Jill said as she sat on the other side of Jack.

"It's good to be home." Harper smiled. My stomach fluttered a little bit as her eyes lingered on me.

"Harp some of my friends are having a party at the frat house tonight, want to join us?" Beau asked as we are. A frat house? She seemed like the type of girl who wouldn't be caught dead in a frat house.

"I'd love to!" She said to my surprise. I groaned a little realizing I was going to be responsible for following her.

I saw the president and his wife exchange worried glances. She was still a child to them, not to mention we had gotten word that the threats against her had proven to be pretty credible.

"Are you sure you don't want to stay in tonight, honey? You just got here." Jill said.

"We won't be too long Mrs. Ryan." Beau smiled.

I rolled my eyes. I had never been a huge fan of this kid. I'd know a little about him from my time here and what I knew I didn't like.

"And I'll be just fine. I'm sure Nick will take good care of me." She said and I noticed a little edge to her voice.
