James walked the shoreline, studying the waves. He looked in the sky and saw few clouds in the sky. It was a perfect for a storm, easily. The sun beat down on his bare back; he wiped the side from his forehead. He picked up a few rocks on the shoreline and skipped them in the water. The rhythmic ripples were crushed by the incoming waves. James walked over to the docks, a few meters away. He got the dock and jumped into his boat, smiling. He fixed the sails and untied the anchor. He called for his sister, Livy.
"Liv - I need you to push me out." He shouted towards her, she sat on the beach, playing with their children. She was just finishing a sand castle, Justin beamed at her. He tugged at her and whispered into her ears. She smiled and nodded. Justin and Liv walked over, his small body reaching up to hold her hand.
"James, can Justin come out with you? You promised him last time." She asked, already lifting him into the boat. James muttered a curse under his breath and nodded in defeat. Justin loved the sea, the wind, the smell and the taste of the water.
"Yeah, he can come out." James replied, getting ready to push off. He checked the bathometer; the winds would be fine for a small shore ride. Livy pushed the boat out and James managed the sails. The ride was quiet until they got a good distance out. He put Justin in a lifejacket and let him sit on the starboard side of the boat looking over the boat staring at the fish. James reached into his khaki shorts and pulled out a pack of Newports. He pulled one out and looked around for a lighter. He checked his side pocket and found his Zippo windproof lighter. Justin squealed in delight as a dolphin pasted the boat. James light up and took a long drag before lifting the sails up again.
"Let's follow it Justin, go fix the ropes." Commanded James. James had a love for wildlife and it would be a good memory for Justin. They followed the dolphin a few miles out. James kept smoking and didn't pay attention to the weather. Soon, hours pasted of laughter and dolphin chasing. It was close to dawn and it was getting dark. The wind was dying down. Within moments, they were stuck.
"Shit!" muttered James, he dropped his cigarette and looked for a radio. He couldn't find one, he looked everywhere. They were stuck at sea...
Meanwhile, Liv sat the docks with Justin's little sister Olivia. They were eagerly waiting the boy's arrival. They already had dinner and had two hotdogs along with cold sodas for them when they got back. Liv looked up and saw the approaching storm clouds. She erased all evil thoughts from her head as Olivia tug at her.
"Mommy, how much longer until Uncle James and Justin get home?" she asked impatiently. She looked around and saw a spec on the horizon, it was glowing orange.
"Not much longer." She replied, watching the sun set as the orange glow got larger.
"Uncle James, what's wrong?" asked Justin, he was getting tired and wanted to go back.
"Nothing Justin, we'll get back to shore in a few minutes, just relax." Muttered James. He was furious, a large storm was approaching and they were stuck at sea. Lighting crackled in the distance and Justin started to cry. He had an extreme fear of weather. Meanwhile, the cigarette had slowly started to burn the ropes. James and Justin sat on the edge the boat, praying for a wind. James turned his head to see the boats in flames. The flames attracted the attention of a few nearby sharks. James knew they had to jump. He pushed Justin over and Justin screamed in fear, panicking like a crazed rabid bear.
"Uncle James! Help!" he shouted, the sharks saw the feet moving around as if it was a predator. Suddenly as James was putting his life jacket he saw Justin pulled under. He screamed and was about to jump in when he saw little's Justin head float in a sea of dark blood. He started to cry, the sharks were devouring his body as if was a midnight snack. His little nephew, he couldn't be gone. Soon enough though, the fire consumed James as he cried...
