I stood beside my twin brother Nate in front of the door neither of us have ever been through. Now, sixteen years old, we were finally going through. The portal. If you go through this door, down the long brick hallway and through the identical door on the other side, you would find yourself in a room identical to the one we stood in now. But down that hallway and through that door lies a completely different world. Once we step through that door, we'll be in Salem Falls, where magic, witches, sorcerers, mediums, and shapeshifters are all part of the norm. All those things are part of the world I'm from.

When my mother was a teenager, her and her friends had met a sorcerer from Salem Falls living in the real world. That was back when lots of sorcerers and witches would go to the real world to try and get normal people to join their rings. My mother and her friends did. Although, there must have been something connecting them to Salem Falls before the sorcerer found them. Something magical in their blood, because after the sorcerer brought them back to Salem Falls, they were much stronger than the other normal humans who were converted. They already had it in them, they just didn't know. They had created a double dose of magic within themselves, and they were the strongest sorcerers and witches in all of Salem Falls. They were called the Crowns.

The children of the Crowns are called the Derivative Ring, meaning we're derived from the originals. My brother, myself, Ben and Adam are part of the Ring, along with four others around the same age that I've never met

After the Crowns had children, some of them, including my mother, decided they didn't want to raise their kids in Salem Falls. So they left, they thought it was some form of protection. All of the members of the Derivative Ring were direct offspring of the Crowns, meaning both their mother and father were part of the Crown Ring.

The Crowns all had a double dose of magic in their blood. If you take the double dose of magic from both the mother and the father, the Derivative Ring members all have a quadruple dose of magic in our blood. We're the strongest witches and sorcerers in all of Salem Falls.

Now, we were being sent back to Salem Falls. We were going to be living with some close family friends, going to school and living everyday life in Salem Falls. Our mom knew we'd be okay, we had our magic to protect us if something was to to wrong, and the Bronsons wouldn't let anything happen to us.

Mine and Nate's father went missing fifteen years ago. No one has seen or heard from him since. The year after that, everything started to fall apart in Salem Falls, and Ben and Adam's dad, Troy Bronson, took over as Head of the nation.

Before some of the families decided to leave Salem Falls, the Bronsons got caught up with the wrong witches. That could've been part of the reason they wanted to leave - part of the reason they felt Salem Falls wasn't safe.

Troy and Evelyn Bronson were threatened by a group of evil witches and sorcerers called the Valiente Coven. They wanted Troy and Evelyn to raise Ben and Adam to do black magic. They wanted Ben and Adam to join them, and when Troy and Evelyn denied their offer, the Valiente Coven got mad. They knew that they could take over Salem Falls if they could get even one member of the Crown Ring to join their coven. They put a spell on both of the Bronson boys, leaving them with some type of disability. The members of the Valiente Coven thought it would give them a disadvantage even though they had the most powerful magic, but they were wrong. Even though Ben was now deaf and Adam is in a wheelchair, they could still take on any witch or sorcerer. They'd win, too. It was a very controversial topic in Salem Falls, and it was hardly ever talked about.

My mother was worried that they would come after Nate and I, so that's probably why we left Salem Falls. We still went back often, to visit the Bronson's and some of our other close friends.
