See, I never wanted to be magical, but you can't choose. You just are, or aren't. I never knew until I was eleven, when my story begins. My kind of wizard is called a Halfblood. One of my parents was a Muggle (a non magical being) and the other was magical. My little sister, Annabelle, is a Halfblood too, as we have the same parents. Anyway, we're probably like you think we are. We wear cloaks, have wands, ride broomsticks, et cetera, but we also have to lead normal lives. Before a witch or wizard turns eleven, they have to go to Muggle school. That's what Annabelle and I did.
My name is Clover Lux Bellamy. My story starts on July 3, 1991. Anna was seven, and, as I told you, I was eleven. Mum was baking cookies while Anna was doing her Muggle schoolwork. Dad was in his office, doing some paperwork for the company he worked for, called Grovendell Inc, where he sold extension cords (he was the parent that wasn't magical). I was drawing a picture of our family, oldest to youngest. Dad went first, then mum, then me, then Annabelle. I was touching up my shoe when there was a loud bang, and then a BOOM. The back door flew open and Anna and I heard mom scream.
"Clover, run! Take Annabelle! Run!" she demanded. Anna and I looked over. "Clover." She sounded dead serious now. "I have faith. I have faith in you. Now go -leave!" I knew she meant it. My eyes stung. "What's happening?" I shouted. Dad hurried down the stairs to see what was the matter. Anna squealed, "Mummy! Look out!"
And then it happened.Mum shrieked, and we knew what was wrong.
Anna wailed again, and soon, she too was crying. She tried to wrench herself from my grip, but I wouldn't let go. "Anna, open the door. Now," I hollered. She bolted for the door and opened it quickly. There was a powerful force entering the house, and it made everyone's hair fly around. "Clover, come on!" Anna yelped. I put a hand over my eyes and squinted so that I could see better.
"Hang on!"
I tried to catch a glimpse of who it was that......hurt mum. It was a woman, a woman with big, bouncy, black curls that went whizzing round her head, and she wore a long, laced black dress. I had no idea who she was, but she was evil. Dad dashed into the kitchen to mum, but he was too late. He, too, fell to the ground, stiff as a stone.
