"Macie LeeAnn what did I tell you?" I looked up to see Craig coming towards me, clip board in hand and a grin on his face.
I knew exactly what he was talking about. I sighed and laughed once.
"I know Craig. I tried but she faltered anyway. That leg ain't gonna do very good for very much longer. I gotta get some exercises to work out the muscle." I said, standing up.
Craig looked at my hand and then at Bullet. I didn't believe that was his real name.
"Everything okay here?" Craig asked me, eyeing both Bullet and my hand.
"Oh, yeah. I had a little run in with Jared and.. Well, this time he didn't make out quite as good as I did." I said, hoping nobody would get upset at me for hitting him.
To my surprise Craig burst out in laughter and put a hand to his chest. "Is that what he came over to the stand with his hand all bloody and coverin' his face for?" he asked between bits of laughter.
I looked down at my hand and sighed before looking back at Craig.
"Where's Lanie?" I asked, hoping she was close by.
"Oh, she's over talkin' to Lilly. She called askin' where you were and Lanie took off." He said, eyeing Bullet again.
"Crud. Lilly's probly texted me a million times." I said, walking over to the duffle bag with my personal stuff that I kept in the trailer.
I grabbed my phone from the side pocket and pressed the home button, seeing 3 missed calls from Lilly, but no text messages.
I sighed, shoving my phone into my back pocket and looking at Bullet. I've gotta go find her. Good luck." I said, turning to leave.
"Come watch." He said.
I turned back to look at him.
"I don't watch city boys." I said, laughing to myself.
"Good idea, us cowboys are always hotter." He said, grinning a crooked, white smile. I noticed his front tooth had once been slightly chipped but was now fixed.
I turned to leave and began walking to the stands, scoping out Lanie and Lilly in the concession line.
I hurried forward, getting in line with them and giving Lilly and immediate look of apology.
"I'm so sorry! I didn't hear my phone ring. It was in my bag and I was.. Busy." I said, not knowing what else to call it.
"Don't listen to her. She was totally talkin' to that cowboy over there. Not that I'm complainin', he's got friends." Lanie said, crossing her arms and moving her head to motion to Bullet.
"I don't see which one you're talkin' about but alright." Lilly said, laughing.
Lanie sighed, exhausted from having to explain.
"Black wrangler shirt, black cowboy hat." Lanie explained.
Lilly got a smile on her face and immediately said "Tripp." As if she finally understood.
"No, his names Bullet." I corrected, wrapping my hand tighter.
She looked at me, one eye brow cocked as she looked back at him.
"Bullet's his ridin' name. His real name's Tripp." She said, letting me know she knew him personally. "Trust me." She said again.
Me and Lanie looked at each other, confused.
