A dream is an unrealistic fantasy that occurs in your mind whilst your body is asleep...however, sometimes, you wish that reality is only a dream...
Elizabeth's POV
The moment I wake up, I have that feeling that something isn't right, but I don't know how long it's going to be until I find out what it is.
On my walk to school, I notice an eerie feeling floating around. I can't help but wonder if something bad is going to happen. My nerves are spiked today and I don't know how to deal with it.
The beginning of the day is filled with impatience and curiosity, and I know now that I'm not the only one with this strange feeling that's consuming the thoughts of everyone around me.
Lunch is suspiciously quiet...that is until walking in the lunchroom is a pair of police officers with Isaac. Wait...what?! Oh no, they're definitely looking for me. Isaac catches my stare and mouths, 'run.'
I don't stop to think about it, I just get up as quickly as I can without drawing too much attention to myself before sprinting towards the outside exit. I only gain a head start of a few seconds before the policemen begin to chase after me. I don't have to look back to know that everyone's eyes are on me because I can feel the stares burning into my back as I run.
I can hear the footsteps chasing after me and the quiet murmur of the girls watching from behind.
My feet take me as far away from the school as possible, and just as I feel like I can barely go any farther, I feel a hand grab my arm and jerk me to the side, but I immediately recognize it to be Isaac when I hear him encouraging me to keep going.
When we're sure we're out of sight from the officers, we begin to climb up a ladder that's on the side of a building, making our way quickly to the top and duck down when we reach it. Looking below, I can see the same policemen rounding the corner we came from only moments ago. Their heads turn back and forth, undoubtably looking for us, and when their eyes begin to look up, we back away from the edge where it's impossible to be seen from the ground.
I can hear my heartbeat loud and clear, even over the deep breaths I'm taking to help me begin to recover from exhaustion.
I don't know how long the two of us were sitting on top of the building before the first words were spoken. "You know they're looking for us now, right?" I nod my head, but keep my eyes focused straight ahead so I don't have to make eye contact with Isaac. "That means we can't go back." I almost lose focus when I hear those words. I haven't thought about what this would mean for us until now.
From the time that I spent sitting here, the sun has gone down and I am now laying on my back and looking at the stars, trying to push my thoughts away. However, no matter how hard I try, I can't keep them away. These thoughts are impossible to keep clear from my mind.
Through all of the thinking I've done today, I've answered some of my unspoken questions. Why were we being chased by men in uniform? Someone must have turned us in for looking 'suspicious' meaning that either my old boss said something or someone else noticed that Isaac and I were around each other a lot. What would happen if we were caught? We would've been tested on and have our memories toggled with so we wouldn't remember each other and we'd always be under constant security, meaning our lives would never be normal again. What if I went home? I would not only have to see the disappointment of my aunt, but I would be caught and she would have to watch as I was taken away.
However, my mind keeps drifting to the most important unanswered question in my mind: What happens now?
-----
I know this chapter is kind of short, but I didn't want to make this chapter really long and make it the last chapter. That being said, there will only be one or two more chapters left in this book, but there could possibly be a sequel depending on whether or not I have a chance to write one.
P.S. Sorry I haven't updated in a while. I didn't realize that I would be going back to school so early, so I've been busy with school, but I'm out of school today because the roads iced over when it snowed last night. Also, I think I may or may not have just pretty much ruined my life...I just got The Sims 4 the other day and I am now a little bit too obsessed with it, so...yeah...
Anyway, no, there is not a song reference in this chapter, and trust me, I tried, but I couldn't fit one in that would really go with what was going on without spoiling the ending.
Last thing: I hope you all had a great Christmas and enjoyed your time away from school where you could spend time with family, and most importantly, sleep in😂.
Question: What are some of your favorite things that you got for Christmas?
My answer: A touchscreen laptop that flips over into a tablet with The Sims 4 (my new favorite thing), a nice watch, an art kit, and a stuffed bear that is about 4 1/2ft tall (and it is also my favorite thing ever).
