I was standing in the woods. The woods I remembered all too well. It was a halfway point between the Kane and Katsuka, which I had always thought was undiscovered by the enforcers.
It was mine and Aozora’s area; only ours.
Off in the distance I could see her bright blue eyes. They glowed in the darkness of the woods. Somehow in the midst of the darkness of the world we live in, she seemed to always make it brighter. I ran towards her as fast as my lanky legs would let me. I just wanted to touch her soft cheeks and kiss her pink lips for once. I reached my arms out to embrace her once again, but they went straight through her. Almost like a hologram. Hot tears streamed down my face.
I didn’t want anything else more in life then to be able to touch her at that very moment.
Not only was I unable to touch her, she seemed to be unaware of my presence. She stared straight ahead with her bright beautiful sky like eyes.
“Aozara… Aozara it’s me!” I managed to scream out threw my tears as I waved my hand in front of her face, but as I expected she did not respond. This is the worst feeling of my life, I thought. The one thing I wanted the most was right in front of my eyes, but I could not just reach out and grab it. I felt like dyeing. Behind her I saw a blur of yellow through my corrupted vision which was now blurred by tears. I did not need to see completely to know who was behind Aozora.
The enforcers.
I couldn’t let them get Aozora. No, not again. I tried grabbing her wrist. I needed her to run away with me, like I offered so many times before. But I couldn’t grab her wrist, I couldn’t save her. I couldn’t save her now and I couldn’t save her now. The enforcer came up behind her, covering her mouth as she tried to scream. Her blue eyes widened as she reached out to me. Seeing her scared, helpless face like that again made me stumble. I feel to my knees on the ground. I couldn’t take it; I just couldn’t take it again.
Wake up Daisuke!
Puzzled, I looked up once again at Aozora who was attempting to struggle free from the enforcer. But I wasn’t looking into blue eyes this time. This time, the set of eyes were orange and yellow. The blue was moved to her hair instead of the eyes. The person wasn’t Aozora anymore. It was the young boy from today. He broke free from the Enforcer and came stumbling to me; blood dripping from his mouth.
“Wake up!” He said shaking my shoulders.
The next thing I knew I was looking into the eyes of Aki; he was the one shaking me this time.
“Get up, get up, get up!” He shouted over me. I rolled my eyes and pushed him off of me. Another nightmare, I thought. This nightmare wasn’t like the other though, why the heck was he in it. Maybe I felt bad, maybe I shouldn’t have left him like that last night. I sat up and quickly grabbed my back. It was aching. As I looked around I realized where we were, the rooftop of a 5 story building in our city. It was almost like my own little hide out. If any of my friends didn’t know where I was, this was the first place they checked.
“What is it?” I asked, stretching out my back.
“We have school!” He yells waving a bagel in my face.
“Oh shit.” I thought out loud. I didn’t even have my uniform. My teacher was going to kill me. I got up quickly and Aki was already waving franticly at me to follow with a bagel in his mouth. I followed him down the side of the building, which frankly was hard when you just woke up. When we finally reached the ground, Yurei was there to greet us.
“Only 5 minutes until school starts.” Yurei said to us. How he knew that would always be a mystery to me, Yurei is just one big mystery. We were still about a 15 minute walk from the school, so we changed our pace to a run. As we ran the wind blew through my hair and into my face, but it felt so good. There was something about running through the expensive streets of the Kane area that made me feel so free, even though I was nothing close to free. I just really hope we get there on time, I can’t afford to be in trouble once again.

“What the hell where you criminals up to last night.”
“Studying.” I replied sharply to the Sensei. “I mean, it’s not easy to stay at the top of the class.” I laughed to myself, sure it was to me. I just wanted our asshole of a teacher off our back.
“Where is your uniform Daisuke?” Our Sensei said pointing a ruler in my face. My arm still hurt from the last time.
“I don’t know, at home.”
“And why exactly is it there.” He asked, raising his tone a bit.
“You see Sensei, I was at the library studying so harddd that I feel asleep there. The good friends that Aki and Yurei are, they found me just in time for school so I was unable to get my uniform.” I said with a smile on my face. I was at least a foot taller than the teacher; he didn’t scare me one bit.
“You make my head hurt.” Our crazy Sensei replied and then turned to Aki. Oh no, I thought. Aki is a terrible liar, and I don’t think I could bare seeing him get hurt. He’s like my younger brother, and although he was tough I wouldn’t want him getting the punishment.
“So how was your night last night? Steal anything good, thief?” That word made all of us jump. We weren’t thieves; it was just doing what was right. How could he even know we were stealing? Aki just looked straight ahead, not wanting to answer him. Smart boy.
“Give me your arm.” Our Sensei said to Aki, motioning him to move his arm up. Aki was about to give his arm to our Sensei but I interrupted. I was sick of his bullshit. It didn’t matter who he was.
“He didn’t do anything.” I said stepping in front of Aki. “We don’t steal anything.” The Sensei grabbed me by my shirt, but I wasn’t having this again. I pushed him back against the wall and grabbed his shirt instead, leaning down so his face was in mine.
“Do you not know who I am? I can ruin you.” I stated. I didn’t pull the “president’s son” card often but I just couldn’t take it anymore. “Just leave us alone, and we won’t have a problem.” I walked back into the classroom followed by a stunned Sensei. I mean, I am pretty intimidating. I’m 6 foot, have a lip ring, a face tattoo, and I wear eyeliner. Don’t really know who would want to mess with me. Once everyone had sat down the teacher went back to the front of the classroom.
“Sorry about that.” He said addressing the class while he fixed his tie. He was definitely nervous after that. After all that had happened, none of us realized there was a new girl standing in the doorway of the classroom. She looked absolutely terrified. I mean who wouldn’t, she practically walked into a zoo of a class. She was nothing special looks wise. She has brown short hair and big doe like brown eyes. The most interesting part of her was a bandage on the right of her cheek. To me, she almost looked like someone from Katsuka; plain, skinny, and dirty. I don’t even know why I bothered to pay attention to her, I could have almost any girl at this school. I guess girls like bad boys, but here’s the thing; I don’t really care for any of them. None of them where Aozora.
“There’s a girl at the doorway.” I said to the teacher, causing him to jump. He sure was easily frightened.
“Oh yes yes.” The teacher replied walking towards the girl. He led her to the front of the classroom.
“This is Anni, she is our newest student. And she’s from...” The Sensei drew a blank and looked towards Anni.
“Seikatsu.” She replied quietly, looking at the ground.
Seikatsu, Seikatsu, why does that sound so familiar? I think back to last night, that was the small town in Katsuka where we stumbled last night. Where I saved that blue haired boys life. I wonder if she knew him, I thought to myself.
“You can sit right next to Daisuke. The scary boy in the back.” The Sensei smiled at me. I stuck my tongue out at him. He really gets on my nerves. Anni started walking towards the back accompanied by laughs and whispers. In the corner of my eye I see a classmate stick her foot out intentionally tripping Anni. She feel right onto my feet. Everyone in the class let out a gasp. They really did think I was scary. I got up and grabbed a hold of her hands, helping her up.
“Are you ok?” I asked her with what I thought was a warming smile, but I guess I didn’t look in the mirror often enough because she quickly sat down in the seat in front of me. She had an even more terrified look on her face then before. Am I really a monster?
