Liam's POV

---------------

I sat in the hall outside of Niall's room for at least three hours, just listening to the rich of doctors inside. I saw one woman cry when she was told that her husband didn't make it in a surgery.

I saw another man cry when he was told that he had stage two lung cancer, and I saw another little girl and her family cry when she was diagnosed with leukemia.

I stood, walking over to the little girl. I kneeled in front of her, smiling softly. "Hi. My name's Liam." I said, my voice hoarse.

The little girl smiled, "I'm Jane."

"Nice to meet you, Jane." I smiled. "I heard about what happened. But I want you to know that everything's going to be okay, alright? No matter what, you're always going to be the strongest little girl I've ever met. You've been strong for this long, you can do it now. I believe in you. Your parents believe in you. Everyone believes in you." I told her. "Diseases are nothing. They don't define you. You do. Your actions. Voice. Thoughts. Everything defines who you are." I smiled and stood. "Stay strong, okay? Can you promise me that?"

Jane nodded, hugging my leg. "I promise."

"Good. Because I'll be counting on it." I then looked to the mother, who had tears in her eyes.

"Hey, everything's going to be alright." I hugged her. "My.. My er.. Close friend is on that room right over there, and he has a chance of dying. Everything will turn out okay in the end." I pulled out my wallet, pulling out a fifty. "Here. It's not much, but it's something. Go out for dinner tonight. Go get ice cream. Something. Don't cry. Okay?"

The mother looked at me, shock on her face. "I.. Thank you.." She whispered and hugged me.

I watched as they walked down the hall, and a doctor tapped my shoulder. "Are you Liam Payne?"

"Yes, sir, why?" I asked, fearing the worst.

"Niall Horan would like the speak with you."

I nodded and quickly walked to his room. "Niall?" I said softly, walking to his bed.

He rolled over, "Liam..." He said softly, his voice hoarse. "Did.. Did you really stay with me the whole time I was here?"

I nodded, "Yes.. I did.." I gave a soft smile, hoping he was okay with it.

He frowned, "Why..? I'm just.. Me. Nothing special.. Just the emo, depressed kid who just so happened to be hit by a car."

I chewed my lip, looking up at him and taking his hand. "Niall.." I sighed, "Youre more than that..." I whispered.

Niall swallowed, "Liam.. I... I need to tell you something.."

I raised an eyebrow at him, taking his hand and rubbing the top of it with my thumb, "What is it, Niall?" I asked quietly, looking him in the eyes.

Niall sat up, chewing his lip, "Liam.. I.. I-"

Just then, The nurse came in with Greg. "Oh! Niall you're awake! Do you know how worried I was?!" He shouted, cutting Niall off in mid sentence.

Niall looked apologetically at me, and I frowned slightly. His looked said, 'Ill tell you later.'

Greg's eyes saw our hands together, and Niall quickly pulled his hand from mine.

Ouch. My heart hurt now.

Stood, giving Niall and Greg a hug. "I should be going. I need to get home and shower, talk to my mum, things like that." I said, smiling at both at them. "I'll be back tomorrow." I told Niall before walking out.

What was he going to say?

Maybe it was for the best that I didn't know.

Or maybe it was something really important?

I sighed on my way back home, and I called Louis.

He picked up on the first ring.

"Ayo! Mr. Tomlinson at your service!" He said, his voice quirky. "Hey, Lou, your voice always cheers me up." I chuckled, smiling. "Well, that's a good thing. So, what's the news on your boyfriend?" He teased, causing me to frown. "Lou, he's not my boyfriend. He's probably not even into guys.." I said quietly, "Hey! You never know that! Have you seen the way he looks at you? Now, tell me what's up with him." I sighed, "He started to flatline about three hours ago, and I screamed at the top of y lungs for a doctor to come and help. I was talking to this family with this little girl who had just been diagnosed with leukemia and the doctor came up and tapped my shoulder. Oh, god, Lou. You have no idea how scared I was." Said quietly, "Terrified? About to shit your pants? Like Harry when we watched the Exorcist?" Lou laughed, "Just about," I told him, smiling. "Well, I was terrified until they told me he wanted to talk to me. He was going to tell me something before Greg came in, screaming." I sighed again. "I'm so frustrated, Lou.." I groaned, pulling into my driveway. "Well, how about that lads and I come over? Movie night sound okay?" Lou asked, causing me to smile. "Sounds perfect. See you soon." I smiled. "Peace out, rainbow trout." Lou chuckled, hanging up.

I'll get through this somehow..
