This day was like any other, my mother yelling my name 'Alice!' Suddenly waking up, ruffling through the warm covers trying my phone. Plugging in my dead phone, I plop my lazy head back onto my soft pillow 'Alice Get Up!' Groaning angerly I sit up in my bed looking at my messy clothes covering the floor. I run my fingers through my knotted hair unraveling the knots.
" I'm awake!" I yell back before mom yells again. I stand up sliding off my sweats picking up a pair of clean jeans. I go into the kitchen putting a frozen bagel into the oven. I go back into the living room putting my books into my bag. " I'm so tired." The oven beeps, I get my bagel and wrap it with a paper towel. I slide on my shoes and my big baggy gray sweatshirt and leave for the bus, " I Love you, see you later."
The moon shining down on the old pavement, I start to play connect the dots with the stars as a Line starts to form behind me. The Bus starts to come down the street, we load the quite bus and I doze off in the back seat.

" I'm Makk Mennattie the new sub, I will be here for the next few weeks." He says as a man comes through the classroom door right before lunch. The room was stricken with a bomb of silence, as he writes his name on the whiteboard, pure cursive, impressive. The jokes looked afraid to talk, did something happen before I joined the school?
The way the click of his shoes echoing through the room as if it was empty, seriously what happened, all I could do was wonder. He wrote some rules up on the board the star rules, the ones we learned back in kindergarten. Class flowed like filtered water, it was very creepy, I was the only one answering the questions. Before the bell rang to excuse class, he wrote a question up on the board.
Wilbur and Orville Wright made the first airplane flight in 1903. They chose Kill Devil Hills, near Kitty Hawk, NC for their test flight. How far did their airplane travel on the first attempt?
I read the question about three to four times, wondering why in the world did he write that question on the board, and it's something that we didn't even learn. He passes out a piece of paper out going up and down each row, stopping at me. He looks at me with his hazel eyes, and he gives a smirk and passes me. I sit there quietly, looking around at people seriously looking at the board, not knowing what to do I take out my notebook writing the question down. The bell rings.
" When you're done give me your paper and you can leave... Alice, Nicolas, you can go." Mr. Mennattie says, a boy named Nicolas and I get up slowly leaving the room. Going to the lunchroom, it felt as if half of the room as empty but that wasn't true. One by one more and more people start filling the room joining their friends.
" Jonie, what was that in there?" I ask as she sits next to me, her hand trembling.
" He's the worst teacher ever if you don't pass the end of the class question he ditches it off of your grade or you get a detention. And it's stuff that was not learning yet, your and Nicolas must be special..." She says as I rub her back as she starts to calm down.
" That's insane! Anyways where is that Nicolas?" I ask looking around, we both shrug our shoulders and start talking about what were doing after school. Finishing up our lunch the intercom calls me and a few others to the office.
" I have called you here today because you all were personally picked to not attend Mr. Mennattie's class you have paid attention just enough and more than any other of the students. During your time out of his class is ours." The principal says and the other students look back in surprise.
" What if we still want to attend class... this is some test right?" I ask wondering why this happing, he looks back in surprise.
" Your a clever girl, Alice, but this isn't some test or anything. if you still want to attend class you can, but it is not mandatory." He replies.
" Attending school isn't mandatory, but people still go." Another girl says.
" Ture, has our parents been contacted about this?" boy says, then everyone starts to ask very intelligent questions, as I say and listened, not agreeing or denying.
" I am not going to answer any more questions, you are all excused." The principle says as a signals for us to leave.
" Have our parent been contacted about this?!" I say with some type of attitude and he looks at me in surprise, and he nods. " We are not going anywhere if you don't answer these simple questions, I personally want this written on paper, you have time on your hands because your calendar says so... Why did we have this teacher as a 'replacement'? What happened to Mr. Lix?" I add and everyone sits and listens to what he has to say.
" No one has heard from Mr. Lix for a few days, and Mr. Mennettie was available to take his place. I have papers here, for you all." He gives us a paper that says everything that he told us. After that he excused us for the rest of the day, I don't like this feeling something's going to happen.
