Hello! My name is Patrick if you couldn’t already tell, and this is my first official fanfic I have ever written so criticism is very much accepted. This story is like a prequel to the Divergent series. Hope you enjoy! :D (Also this has a few spoilers so yeah)
I open my eyes and turn twords the clock on my left. 4:32 A.M. That is the third time I have woken up tonight. I never thought the Choosing Ceremony would make me so excited. I always thought of it as just another day in the city. But now that it is here I just can’t wait to be a true Dauntless. Sure I was born into the Dauntless, but the Choosing Ceremony makes you an official member of the “team”. After a few minutes of excitement I close my eyes and try to fall back to sleep.
The next thing I hear is the beeping of my alarm. The clock says 8:00 A.M. I hop out of bed and get some clothes on. I look in my mirror on the wall and I notice how much older I look. I have blond short hair, a small nose, and bright blue eyes. Maybe it is just that I am excited for the Choosing Ceremony, but I don’t really care.
Just as I walked to the door my mother, Deirdre, walks in. She is a little bit smaller than me and has the same eyes.
“Oh look at you, all ready for the big day!” her smile literally reaches from ear to ear.
“Yep…” I try to sound as normal as I can without yelping out.
“ With all of the training and exercise you have been doing for all of your life there is a high possibility of you passing, stats don’t lie so don't worry!”
That is the Erudite in her speaking. She was originally Erudite, but switched to Dauntless for some reason. She never specifies why, oh well.
“I prepared a celebratory breakfast for my soon to be true Dauntless son! Go and get some.” Before I could even say thank you my mother was gone.
The amazing smell of breakfast lures me down to the kitchen where I see an open seat with a plate of food on it next to my father. He is much taller and buffer than me, but even if he does look tough that isn’t his personality. He usually sticks to himself and doesn’t like to be loud. Kinda weird seeing a Dauntless be so quiet.
“Good morning Pat how are ya?” The food in his mouth was being shot in every direction as he spoke.
“Great!” I yell, couldn’t hold it in any longer.
He seemed so much louder and happier than ever. He must feel the excitement I have as well. When I was younger my father said “I will be the happiest Dauntless alive once my first born becomes a true Dauntless citizen.” He must have meant that, because it sure was apparent.
My father and I sit there for a few minutes and then he says something that I will never forget.
“There is only 3 things that will determine if you are a true dauntless…” he looks straight into my eyes “honor, bravery, and courage. Remember that.”
Before I can say anything I hear the train whistle so I get up and run out the door. I meet up with a few of my friends, Kevin and Aldenis, and we all get on the train.
Little did I know, I was going to the greatest challenge of my life on that train…..
This has been the first chapter of hopefully many of this story. Please comment with suggestions and I will try to provide more of this story.
