You were laying on your bed in your pajamas when you heard a knock on the window. You looked, but there was nobody there. You shrugged it off and kept flipping through your magazine thinking it was just the storm. Then a louder, more persistent knock came from outside. You got up, about to close the curtains, when you saw a figure standing there. You screamed and fell back when Isaac pressed his face up to the window, making his best puppy dog face at you. He leaned back waiting for you to open the window. You got up with a smirk and closed the curtains.
You went back to your bed, waiting for him to go away. But, he didn't. He kept knocking until you sighed and stood up, pulling back the curtains and unlocking the window. He instantly opened it and climbed inside, drenched from the rain.
"What are you doing here?" you asked kinda annoyed.
"I wanted to see you," he said. You raised your eyebrows.
"In the middle of the night? It's pouring out there," you said as you went to go get him some clothes that he kept at your house.
"OK fine. Scott and his mom are gone and I didn't want to be home alone," he says sadly. You give him a hug and then hand him his clothes.
"You can change in my bathroom."
After he got changed, he went to sleep in your older brother's room since he was on a college tour with your parents. After about 30 more minutes of reading, you decide that you should probably go to bed. You turn off your NYC lamp and flop onto your bed. You roll yourself into a burrito then close your eyes.
A few minutes later, you hear noises coming from your brother's room. You slowly get up and open your door. You creep down the hall with your bunny slippers and put your ear to Isaac's temporary room. It's silent. You turn around but instead of going back to sleep, you walk down the stairs, to the kitchen, and get a glass of water. That's when the screaming starts. You drop your glass and run up the stairs. As you bust into Isaac's room, he's thrashing underneath the covers. You rush over to him and try to wake him from his nightmare.
"Isaac! Isaac, it's just a dream! Wake up! Isaac!" you yell as you start to shake his shoulders. He suddenly accidently elbows you in the eye and you fall to the floor with a cry. After a few seconds pass, you stand back up to see Isaac wide awake.
"What happened? What's going on?" he asked.
"You had a nightmare." you said softly, excluding the part about him accidently hitting you.
"I don't even remember what it was about," he says as you sit next to him. You pull him into a hug as you see a few stray tears leak from his eyes. After you pull away, you stand up to leave but he grabs your hand.
"Wait," he says. "Stay." You give him a soft smile as you lay down next to him with your head on his chest. He plays with your hair as you drift off into the best sleep you've had for a long time.
