As I walked into my class for the day I felt something off. I brushed past a boy with dark circles under his eyes. Unshed tears just waiting to spill from the light blue orbs. He was tiny, 5 feet at the most. He had light brown hair that was shaggy and covered his eyes just a bit. His eyes were big and blue, they looked afraid. He was skinny but anyone could tell had a little bit of muscle. He wore tight light green skinny jeans and a grey short sleeve shirt. He added a cute purple scarf and gray Oxfords.
He looked up and I looked away quickly, walking down the stairs of the lecture hall. A few minutes went by before I felt someone sit next to me and turned to see the boy.
"Hey.. I'm Jason." He said quietly, not looking up from his hands. He looked so sad I just wanted to get up and hug him.
"Hi Jason I'm Nick. It's nice to meet you." He looked up at my smiling face and his eyes widened as they met my green ones. His lips parted slightly and my eyebrows kneaded together in confusion. He looked away quickly and mumbled something. He looked surprised. Maybe he expected me to be mean to him or something..
"What? I'm sorry I didn't hear you." I said still confused with our exchange. He looked up at me again and he had a light blush on his crème colored skin.
"I said i-it's nice to meet you too." His stutter made my heart melt in my chest. It so cute but so sad. He ended up sitting next to me and when we went on break he stayed in his seat.
"Hey Jason, I was planning on going to Starbucks quickly. Do you wanna come with me?" When he looked up his eyes seemed brighter and he smiled at me. He got up and started walking towards the door. Guess that means yes..
We started walking to the Starbucks on campus and while we walked we got to know each other a little better. Apparently he lived a few blocks away from my apartment. He said, while being extremely embarrassed, that I was his first friend. His mom would have been so happy. Wait. WOULD have been.
"What happened to your mom?" I turned to him, genuinely curious. His eyebrows furrowed and a glaze covered his eyes.
"Well..” He looked down and tears started falling from his eyes quickly. He started to fall onto the floor but my hands slid around his waist quickly, steadying him. We sat on a bench and he sobbed into my chest. His whole tiny body was shaking. When he stopped crying he looked up at me.
“I’m so sorry..” He started, looking miserable.
“No its totally fine. Did she pass away recently?” He could only nod. “Like in the past month?” He nodded. “week?” He nodded again. “Day?” He nodded as he started to cry again. “No.. shh.. Jason it’s okay. I’m sorry, we can stop talking about her.” He cried for a little while longer and I decided that he just needed to relax, not go back to class. He agreed to come over to my house and as I drove there he fell asleep. When we got there I shook him softly and when he woke up his eyes widened before he reached out and touched my face.
“You weren’t a dream?” He asked quietly. I chuckled as I started walking to my apartments door.
“Nope, you’re stuck with me,” I stopped as I realized I had to stop by my mom and grandmas house. “Hey Jace? Will you come with me to visit my mom and grandma? I always do and I haven’t since this morning.” His eyes widened before he nodded and ducked his head. He is so shy..
We walked down the stairs quickly and I heard my grandma singing. I smiled and opened the door.
“Hi precious!” I love how excited my grandma is to see me.
“Hey grammy.” I hugged her tightly. “I missed you, how was your day?”
“I missed you more precious. My day was great, though it isn’t over yet.” She said matter of factly. Jason sneezed and She turned her head to look at him. “Hi beautiful!” She smiled, beaming at him.
“H-hi..” He was like a little puppy.. She ran over and pulled him into her arms. He tensed before relaxing and hugging her back. It made me so happy to them so happy together. For some reason I wanted them to like each other… I’m a weirdo.
“What happened beautiful? Did you lose someone you love?” He nodded, his eyes wide. My grandma has always been so good at reading people. “Your grandma?” He shook his head. She looked deep into his eyes and frowned. “I’m sorry. I’m sure your mother was an amazing person.” He started to cry and she rubbed his back soothingly. I always thought she had ESP but she insisted she didn’t. Sure grammy. Sure.
“Thank you.” He smiled at her tiredly. She beamed at him and kissed his forehead.
“No, thank you beautiful.” She went back to painting and I kissed her forehead.
“Tell mom I say ‘Hi’ and ‘I love her’ when she gets back grammy. I love you and I’ll see you in the morning. Remember call me if you need me.” She laughed at my worried expression and shooed me away. As me and Jason walked into my house he sat on my couch and I walked into my kitchen. I made us some peppermint tea and we sat and watched adventure time. I looked over to see him curled up in a ball snoring softly. I watched his calm face before grabbing his cup and washing the dishes. I decided to let him sleep since he was having a bad day. I picked him up careful not to wake him, and carried him into my room. Pulling back the covers and tucking him in carefully. I made my bed on the couch and started to drift off to sleep. Jace started screaming and I got up and ran to my room bursting through the door.
