5:15
THE CLOCK READ 5:15 WHEN HE CAME STUMBLING IN, stress weighing down on his shoulders, his face placid. Sky looks up from the book she was reading and almost stopped breathing when she saw the boy. He had chocolate brown hair perfectly styled into a quiff, brown eyes eyeing her down, with a black leather jacket, hands shoved in his pockets. And-oh God, he was breath taking.
Sky could feel her cheeks heat up as she began to speak, "H-hi, welcome to Jimmies, um it's just you two?" She asked, eyes moving to the dark-haired boy that stood to his left, he styled a white shirt and black jeans. Two was probably the answer, but she didn't want to risk getting it wrong like she had two days in a row.
“Yes, just us two,” the boy answers, placing a hand on his shoulders, the corners of his mouth forming into a smile. Sky smiles back and nods. "Come this way," she motioned nervously, starting down the aisle of silverware cackling and voices of different conversations and stops at a booth.
Both of the boys take a seat on either side of the clean, wiped down table. From the corner of her eye she could see him shaking his jacket off, as the restaurant's heat traveled through, touching his tan skin. Sky pulls a pen and notepad out of her red apron pocket and flips to a clean page. "Anything to drink?" She asks, biting down on her chapped lip.
Dark haired boy spoke up again, running a hand through his hair, but she could tell the other boy was ready to speak up, a menu in his hands. Sky wondered how they felt, if they were soft or rough, she'd probably still hold his hand all day. Sky tries to empty her head from those thoughts though, because she barley knew him, she didn't even know his name.
“We'll take two hot chocolates,” the boy pauses squinting at her name tag that was pinned against her red Jimmies shirt. “Sky, is it? We'll take two hot chocolates,”he smiles. Sky nods, quickly turning on her hill.
Sky didn't know weather to blush or giggle at the fact that the boy actually bothered to learn her name or the fact that boys like them would come in and order hot chocolate. How manly.
As Sky prepares the hot chocolates, her eyes seem to lock on the two boys every two seconds. And every time it seemed to get hotter and hotter, sweat forming at the top of her forehead.
"Oh, I see you checking those guys out, how naughty." A voice startles her, making are drop marshmallows on the floor as she turned towards the voice. When she does she sighs and rolls her eyes and bends down to pick up the mess she made.
“Shut up, Maria,” Sky says. Of course she was checking out those boys, one of them in particular, but she didn't want to admit it to her sister, as she would probably make jokes about it or even tell those boys herself that her sister was interested.
God, did someone turn the heat to blazing? she thinks standing up and turning back to the hot chocolates, looking towards the boys for a split second before flinching back to her job.
“You so are, that's really cute that you've got a crush.” Maria jokes, poking at Sky's cheeks. Maria lived for moments like these. When she could pick at her little sister and not get picked at back, because when Sky did the picking things got physical and they would both end up on the floor.
“Get back to work or mom will kill you,” is Sky's reply. She wipes the sweat from her hands onto her apron and picks up the two hot chocolates in both hands. Taking a deep breath she steps past her sister, who was starting to cut a cheesecake, and marches to the table where two young boys sat.
She forces a grin onto her face, “Here are your hot chocolates, are you ready to order for food?” She asks kindly.
The grin falls from her lips when she glances at him and he's pulling his jacket back on, eyes glued out of the window. “Actually, Sky, we've got to get going, thanks anyways.” The other boy tells her, his eyes warm as he sends her a smile.
He drops a ten onto the table and before she can even blink they are both out of the door and the she is suddenly cold.
She glances out of the window and catches her father leaning against his police car with another officer and moves her eyes to him. He and the dark-haired boy are walking fast, their eyes on the ground as they pass the officers.
All she can think is that her father scared them away, like he does with every boy--even the boys he knows had no chance with her--that comes within five feet of her.
She didn't even know his name, all she could think was him, him, him....
