As I was driving to her house, Jeff called.
"Hey Jeff, what's up?" I asked.
"Hey what are you doing right now?" He asked.
"I'm with Evie." I answered and could practically see his eye roll through the phone.
"She's no good, you're blind man." He sighed.
"I'm not having this conversation right now, what do you need?" I asked starting to get annoyed. I felt Evie's small hand on my knee and it calmed me down a little bit.
"Party tonight at eight. I'll text you the address."
"Okay." I hung up and put my phone down.
"You okay?" Evie asked softly and I nodded.
"Um there's this party tonight. Do you want to go?" I asked, glancing over at her. It was almost as if her face went blank when I said the word party.
"Oh, um sure." She said and looked away.
"I like this." I said, holding up a black shirt. She glanced over at me and nodded before walking into her closet and grabbing a pair of jeans and some heels. She laid it on her bed and finished her makeup. "Mm you look good." I said, wrapping my arms around her from behind.
"Thanks babe." She smiled and leaned her head back against me. "Who's party are we going to?" She asked.
"I honestly have no idea, but if I had to guess, the Jacks." The Jacks are Jack Johnson and Jack Gilinsky. They throw the most epic parties.
"Sounds cool." She responded before leaving to get dressed. I heard the door open and looked up at her. She looks so good in everything she wears. The outfit fit her curves perfectly, and I loved it.
"You ready?" I asked. She nodded and we headed off.
As soon as we stepped in the door, she grabbed my hand. She doesn't like parties. She usually never goes with me when I ask. I'm glad she's here though. She leaned close to my ear and said that Cora was here too. I nodded and guided her to the kitchen where hopefully, the music wasn't as loud. We arrived in the kitchen and saw Johnson and Cora, also Gilinsky and Madison. Evie let go of my hand to speak with the girls and I greeted the guys.
"Hey bro, glad you came." Johnson said as we did a bro hug.
"I see you brought Evelyn. I'm surprised she came." Gilinsky said, glancing at her as she spoke with Madison and Cora. He seems to know something I don't. He always acts weird around her. It's strange, but I just shake it off.
"Yeah, she doesn't really like parties." I shrugged, taking a seat in one of the bar stools.
Gilinsky nodded and looked away from them. "How have things been with you two?"
That's an odd question. "Good as always." I smiled at her laughing with the girls.
"Hm." He nodded.
"What are you and Madison doing for your anniversary?" I asked.
He smiled as soon as I mentioned her name. He really loves her. "We are planning on going to Hawaii." He answered.
We continued talking for a while until we realized the girls were gone. "Yo where'd they go?" Johnson asked.
"Probably dancing." Gilinsky shrugged. "We should go join them"
"Are you ready to go baby?" I asked Evie as she laid her head on my shoulder. She nodded and I grabbed her hand as we pushed through the crowd of people. She had a few drinks, but nothing more than she can handle. I didn't want to drink anything, because I have to drive and it's dangerous. Usually if I do drink. I just stay, but Evie wouldn't want to. She was unusually quiet as we got in the car. "Is something wrong?" I asked. She shook her head and wiped her palms on her jeans. "Evelyn talk to me."
"I..I... nothing." She gave up, shaking her head.
"Babygirl, you can tell me." I said softly and placed a hand on her thigh.
Evelyn
"Babygirl, you can tell me." He said and I felt his hand on my thigh. The pang in my stomach just got worse. I really really like him. I finally admitted it to myself, but this just ruins everything. Maybe it's just the drinks. It'll probably go away tomorrow. He let out a sigh and gave up. We arrived at my house and he walked me in as always. Such a gentleman. He pulled me to his chest and I wrapped my arms around him, taking a deep breath. I wish we could stay like this, forever. He softly kissed me for a few seconds.
"Goodnight, I love you." He said in a soft voice.
"Goodnight babe." I whispered, slightly disappointed I couldn't allow myself to tell him I love him. I really really want to, but I can't. I can't keep this up, I can't keep hurting him. I'm no good for him. That's what I keep repeating in my head.
He slowly released me from his grasp and turned out the door. I had to fight the urge to tell him to stay, to tell him to stay with me and hold me, because that's all I want. I took a deep breath before pushing away the thoughts and locking the door.
Shawn
I dragged myself out to my jeep. I wish she'd ask me to stay and to hold her. That's all I want. She seemed a little off tonight. Maybe she was just tired. I shook the thought from my head and started the car, swiftly pulling out of the drive.
