I woke up early the next day, so I could text Chuck to pick me up while Jacob was still asleep . Luckily, Jacob did not try anything else last night. I got a paper out with Chuck's number on it that he gave me during math class yesterday, and texted him.
Me: If your awake you can pick me up in about ten minutes. Jacob is still asleep.
Chuck: Yea, I'm awake. I'll be there. I'm getting really worried about this Jacob guy.
Me: Thanks. I'll tell you all about it when I'm ready.
And with that I switched off my phone and went off to freshen up. I went into my bathroom and started taking a short shower and got dressed. I went downstairs and cringed when I walked over the spot where Doug... I know it all happened three years ago, but it still haunts me. I went into the kitchen, got an apple and stuffed it in my bag. I checked my wallet to see how much I had left for school lunch at the cafeteria. I was running out of money but I had enough left for about one meal. I unlocked the door and went outside, damn it's cold. I ran upstairs to get a jacket and as I passed Jacob's room, I saw him standing there with a belt in his left hand. I rubbed my eyes and looked again. It was just my imagination.
I stepped into my room and ran up to my closet, I opened it and grabbed out a coat.
When I reached downstairs, I opened the door and bolted out.
I waited for around one minute and a Toyota Camry pulled up. I ran towards the car and he giggled. I opened the door.
"And you would've walked through this weather?" He asked and stated playfully, and I got inside.
"A 'hello' would be nice. I've walked through hail. So this is nothing." I said with confidence.
"Okay hello to you Miss 'I can walk through every weather' York." He said in a high pitched voice. I smacked his leg and noticed that he was wearing jeggings, he looked hot. He was wearing a sleeveless shirt. Wait a sleeveless shirt?
"Aren't you gonna get cold?" I asked, and he said nothing, he just pointed to the back seat. I saw a navy blue sweater with a leather jacket stacked on top of it.
"It's hot in the car." He said with a chuckle after I noticed his jacket and sweater.
We pulled up at school and easily found a parking space, because we were so early.
" So what are we gonna do with forty-five minutes before school starts?" he asked.
"There's plenty to do." I said
"Like what?"
"Just follow me." I said and started walking towards the sport field.
"This is where it all happens." I said with a deep voice when we reached the sport field.
He laughed in response
"Please welcome Paige York and Chuck Weber as they face off in the championships-ships-hips" I echoed and he made the audience sound effects, by clapping and shouting.
"Track?" I asked.
"You know it." He replied and we walked up to the starting point.
We both crouched down.
"Ready. Steady. Go!" He said and we were off.
"You're fast, Chuck. But not fast enough." I said as I ran passed him.
"We'll see about that." He said and grabbed me by the arm. The arm that recently got thrown with a beer bottle.
"Owww!" I shouted. Luckily I removed all the glass, disinfected it and wrapped it in a bandage.
"I'm sorry! Did I grip on it too hard?" He asked with a stressed look on his face.
"No its not you." I stated, while taking off my coat, and sweater.
"Paige, your wrists." He said while staring at them.
"Look Chuck, if you you don't want to hang out with a broken mess, then I suggest you leave now."
"I don't want to leave, I want to help you."
I turned to my side, exposing the bandage to Chuck.
"What happened, Paige?" He asked, with anger rising in his voice.
"Jacob." I said with a tear running down my cheek.
"Who is Jacob?"
I walked off to get our bags and started heading towards the bleachers. He followed and we sat down and I told him everything, starting from my parents death to the beer bottle incident.
"You are not going to go to continue school today." He said with a protective look on his face.
"No Chuck, I'm fine. He has done worse." I protested.
"Paige, you were just thrown with a glass, and you want to go to school?"
I nodded as I put on my layers again. He stood up and threw me over his shoulder in one swift movement.
"We've got ten minutes, we can still get out of here." He said, looking at his watch.
"Chuck, this isn't necessary. I can walk."
"Then how will I know that you're not gonna run away?""Just put me down!" I whisper yelled.
He gently placed me on the ground and I walked next to him.
"Do you see me running away?" I asked and he chuckled in return.
"Chuck let's go through the sports field gate. To avoid being seen by teachers and or students."
"Sure. Where is that?" He asked and I pointed to the back of the field. We ran across the sport field and reached the gate. It was locked.
"I'll give you a boost." He offered and I nodded, he pushed me over the top of the gate and I climbed down the other side. He then jumped over and we started walking.
"How does coffee sound?" He asked.
"Mhhh, good."
We then walked across the street, around a corner and Starbucks came into view.
"I don't have money for Starbucks. I'll just wait for you." I said.
"Who said that you have to pay?" He asked.
"No Chuck, I don't want to use your money."
"C'mon, it's the least I can do for re-murdering your arm." He said and I giggled.
We sat down at a table and he ordered two mega cappuccinos.
I actually feel safe again, like how I did with Doug.
