I got up extra early, I was so excited to go on an actual trip that was more than a mile away from the college. I got a warm sweatshirt, jeans, and boots on. I went to check to see if Zakk was up by sneaking across the hallway and over to his door and creaking it open. I looked through the sliver of the door only to hear him snoring.

What time is it even?

I look down the hall and notice the mounted wall clock at the end, 4 A.M. I might as well wait. I was hungry so I make my way down the stores to the lounge and outside. There were multiple buildings to this place, this one was just the lounge and a small majority of dorms.

I needed the storage room where we kept most things. I head around the main building, past the garden, and keep going until I see where the main building ended and the second wing started. We called it building B.

B was the biggest of the three buildings. C was seconds, and A was the smallest. We don't use C very much since it's just full of dorms. There's only 13 of us, we don't need many rooms. B was the largest because it had dorms, the gymnasium, cafeteria, storage room, three auditoriums, and basketball courts in a second gym.

I needed a key or a passcode to even get into the building. I had no idea where they kept the keys but I knew the passcode. They didn't know I knew though.

I punch in the 6-digit password and the lock clicks open. I walk all the way to the gymnasium. My sneakers were moist from the dew on the grass and squealed with every step. Walking across the gym, I take in the quiet.

Maybe I should spend more time in the C building.

Not in this one though, they come in here a lot. Sierra checks the food amounts in the storage room and the guys come in here to play basketball sometimes. It wouldn't be as quiet as building C.

The storage room came into my sight across the dimly lit gymnasium. I approached the storage room door, noticing the sign up sheet Sierra "invented". I remember her voice in my head, If you want food Caden, you get a responsible adult to get it for you. I remember she had emphasized responsible, the thought made me roll my eyes. I analyze the sign up sheet anyways.

It had columns that you had to fill out. Your name, the time you took the food, the kinds of foods you took, and how much of it.

She won't notice. I open the door, activating the motion light, revealing the shelves of cans, bags, boxes, and other supplies. I imagined myself like a kid in a candy shop, I could have anything, but for free.

I rush to the shelves and inspect the lame can labels filled with veggies, mostly lima beans. Then, I see the chips and my eyes light up. Next to that, a box of cinnamon toast crunch. I reach for the bag, ripping it open quickly and grabbing a handful of salty chips. I haven't ate anything like this since the last campout we all had. Terynce always tells me that these were for special occasions, but it's just one bag.

One bag of chips and a bowl of cereal later, I realized only a half hour went by. I stand from the gym floor and go back into the storage room, leaving my garbage and empty bowl on the ground. I locate the baseball bats and balls we kept in here towards the back. I pick the blue bat I always use and three balls. I figured I'd come back for my garbage later.

With the balls and bat in my hands, I exit building B and realize the sun rising. It was a little foggy out and the air was cool. I headed to the baseball field just a few yards from the building, near building C. I drag the bat across the metal fence making my way to home plate. I start tossing one ball at a time in front of me before taking a swing. After the third ball that hit close to third base, I heard someone's voice from the dugout.
