Chapter 29 - Ultimatum
"Well, well, well. You still in bed at this hour? Must be nice."
"Stephanie," I exclaimed, hoping Blick heard me as he looked for an electrical outlet behind my mother's dresser.
He whirled around and rushed towards the other side of the bed. "Get her location," he mouthed.
"What can I do for you?" I asked with that tone I used with my sister, attempting to sound polite to her when I loathed her. I tried to steady the phone, so I could see the video conference feed clearly. I motioned to Blick to stop pushing his knee into the bed. "Where are you?" I asked her.
"Nice try, sis. I think I have something you want."
"Really?" I asked. Nervously I picked at the covers with my free hand. I couldn't make out much of her appearance because she sat in a darkened area with a black veil draped over her head. Where is she?
"You've got some nerve picking me up in a bar, woman. Do you know who I am?"
I knew that person's voice. Ashton!
"Gag him, will you?" Stephanie shook her head as she talked off camera to someone.
After a few moments, she pushed Ashton's face into frame, so I could see him. His brown eyes were wild with fear, but he was trying his best to remain calm and breathe evenly since his mouth had been covered with duck tape.
"You know this one, sis?" she asked me.
"I do. That's Ashton Taylor, a very popular actor. I suggest you let him go."
"Or what? All of Hollywood is going to come after me? I doubt it. You have some answers I want, my dear sister. Like where Father is. I know you know."
"I haven't seen him, Stephanie. Let the guy go. He has nothing to do with this."
"He does now and so does the girl."
My fists clenched when I saw Lynn's red-cheeked face appear in front of Stephanie. Lynn fought against her.
Immediately Stephanie pushed both Lynn and Ashton in opposite directions away from the camera on the phone. I could hear them fall to the floor.
Lynn's voice surfaced and I heard her say, "You better buy me a drink for that shove, honey."
Both of my friends were giving me hints as to where they were. I knew with Lynn's hint that it was the Golden Skull bar. As quickly as I could, I scratched 'bar' into the brown suede fabric comforter. Blick nodded and began typing into his phone.
"We're going on a little trip with these two. You know where. You've got 24 hours to get home or I'll string these up by their intestines on our lovely entrance gates by the river. You get me?" Stephanie's threat was crystal clear.
"If you harm them in any way, Stephanie..."
"Yeah, yeah, yeah. You'll kick my ass. Save it for later!"
The Face Time call was disconnected.
