Youngjae likes skirts and pretty nail polish but Jaebum is embarrassed to be seen with him.
Youngjae's mom knew he liked skirts better than boy clothes when he was little and never wanted to take off her dress after he tried it on. So as he grew older she always bought him the prettiest skirts she could find and if she couldn't find them she made them cause her baby's happiness was everything to her. Youngjae loved the skirts his mom got him he loved how soft and delicate they were and he loved when she bought him nail polish that were all different colors and shiny and sparkly. Youngjae didn't really care what people thought of him as long as he could wear his pretty skirts he was happy and he didn't care if others didn't like it cause he had Jaebum. Jaebum was his very very best friend since they were little and Jaebum was always there when he needed someone and Jaebum didn't care that he wore skirts or nail polish nope cause Jaebum was his very best friend in the whole world. Everyone knew by now about youngjae wearing skirts so it wasn't a shocker to see him prancing up the school hallways or walking around the mall with pretty headbands or big heels on cause everyone knew by now. Some people didn't like it but youngjae didn't care as long as he had jaebum and his mom who always supported him. One day while he and Jaebum were at the mall Jaebum hyung said they could go to the dress store and youngjae could pick out whatever dress he wanted and Jaebum would buy it for him and youngjae was so excited he started squealing and giggling. Youngjae said he had to go to the bathroom first so Jaebum waited outside for him and when youngjae came back Jaebum was talking to this girl with long red hair and youngjae asked Jaebum if they could go now but Jaebum just ignored him and it made youngjae sad, so he whined and grabbed hold of jaebums arm and tugged on it gently like he does when he wants something. He doesn't miss the ugly judging look the girl gives him but he doesn't care he likes how he looks today and he wants Jaebums attention so he tugs again and the girl scoffs and turns around and leaves and youngjae is happy cause now he can have Jaebums attention all to himself. Except Jaebum doesn't pay attention to youngjae he just watches the girl leave and youngjae just wants to go look at pretty dresses and try them on and twirl in them so he tugs once more and it's like a bomb goes off cause Jaebum turns around so suddenly it startles Youngjae and Jaebum kinda shouts at youngjae to be normal and stop wearing skirts and stop getting in the way and being needy all the time and at first youngjae thinks he's kidding cause this is jaebum his very best friend in the whole world but then he realizes Jaebum's serious and his smile drops and he feels like crying cause Jaebums his best friend how could he say those things? Youngjae feels really hurt and he's really upset so he tells Jaebum he doesn't have to hang out with him anymore and Jaebum says fine so he says fine and he leaves before the tears he feels in his eyes fall. The next day youngjae doesn't leave his house and he doesn't put on his pretty skirts he just stays in bed all day and he doesn't text Jaebum cause Jaebum doesn't wanna talk to him anymore anyway. When school comes around on Monday youngjae doesn't wear his skirts no, he wears his ugly boy jeans and his ugly boy shirts and he feels so gross and unlike himself but jaebum said he's not normal and youngjae never really thought about what normal was but since jaebum said it he feels like an alien and he wants to be normal like everyone else so he wears his ugly clothes and feels all wrong and people stare and look confused but no one asks him why he's not wearing his skirts. When Jaebum sees youngjae he has to look twice at youngjae in pants cause he's always seen him in skirts, it looks so weird to jaebum and he tries to go up and talk to youngjae but youngjae ignored him and ran away and Jaebum feels sick at the small frown he sees on youngjaes face. He feels even sicker when lunch time rolls around and he sees youngjae sitting in the corner not at their usual table by himself and he feels the sickest when he goes over to sit with him and youngjae jumps up likes he been bitten and practically runs out of the lunchroom so fast he almost trips over his own feet. Jaebum calls youngjae that night to see if he wants to go get some cake cause cake is youngjaes favorite sweet and he wants to apologize for being such a jerk but youngjae won't pick up the phone and when Jaebum calls his mom she says youngjae is tired but Jaebum knows it's a lie. Jaebum texts youngjae for hours but he's sure youngjae turned his phone off or blocked him cause the messages won't send anymore and Jaebum feels terrible especially when the next day at school youngjae is still in his ugly boy clothes and Jaebum just knows he's uncomfortable and in pain cause boy clothes make youngjae feel ugly and itchy in his skin. But when he tries to get youngjaes attention the boy looks the other way and weaves in and out of the crowd till jaebum loses him and jaebum knows if he was wearing his shiny skirts he'd find him but because of what he said he won't and Jaebums so mad with himself cause he hurt youngjae and youngjae is his best friend how could he do that to him? The next day when some girl tries to flirt with youngjae, Jaebum doesn't miss the way youngjae cringes when she pulls on his hoodie strings and Jaebum couldn't stop himself from going over and wrapping his arm around youngjae's waist and pulling him close while giving the girl a rude glare and telling her to back off. She scoffs and leaves but youngjae immediately pulls away from his grasp like it burned and Jaebum tries to grab his arm before he can leave but youngjae runs so fast into the crowd Jaebum can't keep up. A week passes by and Jaebum misses youngjae, the old youngjae. Youngjae never wears his skirts anymore and people are starting to question him but he never answers just shrugs and Jaebum can feel the pain youngjae holds back each time but youngjae won't listen to him. He won't answer his calls or his texts and he never can get close to him anymore,whenever the doe eyed boy sees the older he runs away and Jaebum can't keep up and all he wants is youngjae back. Even if he doesn't wanna be his friend anymore he wishes youngjae would go back to dressing pretty cause dressing pretty is what makes youngjae happy and himself. Jaebum gets an idea to go buy youngjae a dress cause that's what they were there for the day this started so he goes and finds the prettiest dress he sees that youngjae will love. It's a soft sparkly blue color and Jaebum just knows youngjae will love it cause he loves sparkly things and he loves blue especially soft blue. But when Jaebum gets to youngjaes house he sees a truck hauling away boxes and boxes of youngjaes skirts and he feels angry and upset and he even yells at the people for taking them but they tell him the boy inside called them and said he doesn't want them anymore and now Jaebum knows how badly he's fucked up and now he's so scared and sad cause what has he done to youngjae? He knocks and knocks and calls to beg youngjae to come outside but youngjae won't answer and Jaebum feels sick to his stomach when his mom tells him he's not here he's out with some girl and Jaebum knows it's all his fault cause he told him to be normal when youngjae isn't. Youngjae isn't normal cause he's youngjae, he's special and perfect and the sunshine in Jaebums life but he's messed it up so badly and now youngjae doesn't wanna be youngjae anymore and it's all his fault. He runs to the place where youngjae is supposed to be and he sees him sitting beside the same girl that was pulling on his hoodie strings and the girls laughing and throwing her head back like she's having the time of her life but youngjae, youngjae looks absolutely miserable and Jaebum wants to cry and scream cause of what he did to youngjae. He goes over to push the girl away from him cause he knows youngjae doesn't like her but youngjae pushes past jaebum and when jaebum grabs his hand to tell him how sorry he is for everything youngjae turns around and tells him to go away cause they aren't friends anymore and he doesn't need Jaebum to take care of him anymore Jaebum feels like all the winds been knocked out of him. Expecially when he sees how hurt youngjaes eyes are and how he doesn't wanna look at him for long anymore before he grabs the girls hand and pulls her away. Jaebum goes home and cries till he's numb cause he misses youngjae so much so so much he just wants him back to twirling in his skirts and smiling his big smile and clinging onto his arm when he wants attention but he fucked up and he's hurt youngjae and he hates himself so much for it. 3 weeks go by and Jaebum can't handle life anymore without youngjae to brighten it up and whenever he sees youngjae he wants to run up to him and wrap him in his arms and tell him how much he's missed him but youngjae ignores him,he even takes different routes to class so their paths won't cross. It's on a weekend when Jaebums at the mall walking in a daze does a girl walk up to him and start flirting and it takes him a second to realize it's the girl he was talking to when youngjae interrupted him that day and when she laughs Jaebum no longer sees the appeal that he did before and she asks him where the weird guy in the skirts is. Jaebum feels angry at her but more angry at himself so he brushes her off and walks away and heads to the bathroom. When he walks in he hears someone talking and he knows it's youngjae and he can hear how dry his throat sounds which means he's been crying and Jaebum wants to call out to him but then he hears youngjae asking himself in his sad shaky crying voice what's wrong with me why can't I be normal. Jaebum's heart can't take it anymore. He runs over to youngjae and pulls him against his chest and youngjae fights at first but Jaebum squeezes him so hard and tells him how sorry he is and how he shouldn't have said what he said. He tells youngjae how perfect he is and how special and how pretty he looks in his skirts and he tells him how he doesn't need to be normal cause he's youngjae and youngjae is perfect in every way. And now youngjaes crying and hugging jaebum and whimpering and saying how much he missed Jaebum and Jaebums heart feels calmer the longer he holds youngjae in his arms. After that Jaebum spent the day buying youngjae new dresses and skirts and when youngjae wore his skirts around jaebum walked with him happily cause Jaebum didn't care what people thought. Youngjae was back to being his perfectly perfect youngjae self, and that was all that mattered.
