Yugyeom never picks up the phone anymore. (Yeah idk what I did with this...)
Yugyeom is a child at heart,always has been always will be. People forget his childish heart cause of his height but Yugyeom is a soft hearted child who loves going to the zoo and eating cotton candy and playing games and watching cartoons on saturdays when he has no school. Some people tease him actually a lot of people do a lot of people think he's weird and odd and a freak cause he doesn't like partying or getting drunk or hooking up with someone like all the other kids his age do but it's not his fault that parties are too loud and alcohol makes him sick and sex seems weird to him. It's not his fault no,he's just a little different and there's nothing wrong with that. The only person who understands him a bit better than everyone else is a boy named Junior whose only friends with him cause his mom is friends with Yugyeoms mom and they always ask about each other and Junior how is hanging with Yugyeom isn't he a nice boy? Junior loves to party,he loves getting hammered and partying all night till the sun comes up so maybe that's why his mom tried to make him be friends with Yugyeom. You know what they say,opposites attract. But for Yugyeom and Junior,it never clicked. They never became friends. I mean sure,if Yugyeom is lonely he can call Junior and when Junior needs a wingman at the mall he can count on Yugyeom who'll bring in girls with his height and good looks but then fall to Junior when they realize how childish and annoying the other is. They have each other's numbers and yes Yugyeom knows Junior sleeps in till 11 every weekend and Junior knows which animal at the zoo is Yugyeoms favorite and sure,sometimes you'd catch them at the park together where Yugyeoms building a sand castle cause he likes those and Junior will make the tiniest of efforts to help if no ones around to see it. Little things like that are true yes,but they aren't what you call friends per say. Yugyeom will say they are,if anyone sees them together and asks he has no problem saying yes a little too loud that yes,Junior is his friend and always would be. Junior on the other hand doesn't see them as friends,he sees him as a babysitting job except he never gets paid or is never sure when it ends cause at the end of the day when Yugyeom goes home he'll still text the older and though he tries to ignore it eventually he ends up answering with a small response that keeps the younger going. So no,they aren't friends but Yugyeom doesn't understand that. In truth,even though they aren't friends, Junior is the only one who sorta gets the younger. Granted he still thinks he's annoying and weird and too old to squeal and bounce on his toes like crazy whenever he sees a kitty but Junior sorta gets him. He knows what flavor ice cream is Yugyeoms favorite and which books Yugyeom likes the most and he's ashamed to even admit to anyone but himself that he knows the names of all Yugyeoms stuffed animals. Yes,the only person who understands Yugyeom at least a little is Junior. It's always been Junior and Yugyeom doesn't mind cause Junior is his friend,or so he thinks. It's a Friday when Yugyeom realizes he's not his friend,he may be slower than others at times but it's on a Friday night he realizes that his hyung has never been his friend. It was hot out so Yugyeom begged Junior to take him out for ice cream and to the duck pond so he could watch the duckies and count them up and Junior grumbled and rolled his eyes that he had other plans and more important things to do but he finally agreed to shut the little monster up which is how 10 minutes later they were at the pond looking for ducks with Yugyeoms face covered in chocolate ice cream and Junior disgusted at the sight. Junior knew he wasn't supposed to let Yugyeom eat too much sugar but whenever the younger set his mind to what he wanted he could be the most annoying shit in the world so Junior always gave in just so he'd leave him alone and quit whining. So there they were,walking along the pond while Yugyeom gobbled his cone down while squeezing his ducky stuffed animal named Mr.Quackers when just up ahead came a group of teens that went to school with both Yugyeom and Junior. Now Yugyeom didn't pay much attention to them,he knew they were bullies but his mind was so focused on finding the duckies he didn't care about much else in all honesty. But Junior? Junior cared a lot cause these were kids he hung out with a lot,kids that he partied with and were friends with his friends and he recognizes one of them as the girl he has a date with later tonight. Junior prays that they don't notice him and they go about their business but Junior never prays loud enough so eventually they see him and come over and they're all smiling and talking to Junior but they're all staring at Yugyeom like he's a freak and if Yugyeom was his friend he'd defend him but he's not so he doesn't. They start talking about this and that and did you hear how that kid Jaebum got some freshman girl pregnant?? Junior listens attentively cause this is the stuff he cares about and not sand castles and stuffed animals like someone he knows. It's going fine till a loud squeal makes them all turn and look except Junior cause he knows what this sound means from the thousand times he's heard it. Hyung!! Hyung look at the duckies!! Look how cute they are!! Can we pet them?! Please?! Junior doesn't have to turn to know Yugyeoms bouncing on his toes all excitedly and he probably looks a mess what with his ice cream all on his face and his stuffed animal held in his arms no,Junior already knows he looks stupid so he doesn't look. He doesn't but his friends do,their eyes all disgusted and judging and laughing at the boy who likes ducks. Is he a friend of yours? The guy wasn't kidding when he asked,he honestly didn't know. Maybe people at school didn't see them together cause Junior tried as best he could to spend as little time as possible with the embarrassing younger,many people didn't even know they knew each other much less hung out sometimes. Junior was stumped for words cause how could he deny when they all clearly saw him walking with the dork? He doesn't get time to answer cause the said dork comes running over and starts tugging on his arm like he always does till Junior takes him closer to the edge so he can stare at the ducks. Hyung!! Look how cute they are!! Can I touch them?! Pleaseeee?! By now Yugyeoms tugging his arm so hard they're getting closer to the water and everyone's staring at him with a judging face and humorous eyes and Junior can hear their mocking tones now when they blab about this to everyone he knows and the last thing he needs is people blabbering about him hanging around some dumb loser who talks like a 5 year old when he's excited and so that's why he pulls his arm out of Yugyeoms hand. He knows everyone will get him for this so he purposely pulls his arm out of the youngers grasp,and he purposely lets the younger fall into the cold dirty pond without doing a thing to save him. He watches as Yugyeoms starts coughing up water and sneezing cause the algae in the water makes him sensitive and he doesn't do a thing to help. Loud laughs sound out behind him and soon everyone's coming closer and staring and pointing at the younger whose bottom lip is wobbling cause his stupid ducks all wet and his ice cream fell in the water and drowned. Hyung! My ice creams gone! And My duckies all wet! Fix him! Yugyeoms staring up at Junior with sad pleading eyes,begging the older to come down and help him up and save his duck and make him dry again so they can go get more ice cream but Junior just stands there. He doesn't move to help,he doesn't even look sorry. He just stands and watches as everyone laughs and laughs at Yugyeom and points at his duck and Yugyeoms eyes start filling with tears cause he hates being pointed and laughed at but he doesn't miss the girl that sidled up to his hyung and he doesn't miss how his hyung puts his arms around her waist and he definitely doesn't miss the small smirk he sees on the olders face and that's what makes him cry the most. Yugyeoms slower than others sometimes but on a Friday night while he was sitting in a cold dirty pond he realized his hyung was never his friend,never was and never would be. Yugyeom trudged home with his wet duckie all the while Junior headed off to some party he wouldn't even remember the next morning. From then on Yugyeom never called his hyung at night cause he was lonely and he never begged him to take him to the duck pond and he never ever bothered him in school,couldn't even if he wanted to cause his hyung was always with those mean bullies and that girl was always around him and talking to him. Yugyeoms mom asked what happened and if something was wrong but Yugyeom just shook his head and smiled telling her how he now knew what true friends were which made her beam at her smart boy. Junior was in heaven now,he was so blissed and happy cause he didn't have to babysit anymore. Yugyeom never texted him all night till his phone froze and he never had to build sandcastles anymore and he never ever had to hear the younger ramble on about his stupid stuffed animals anymore. Junior was free of the little monster and he couldn't be happier than knowing he didn't have to be around the annoying boy who never shut up about something once he was excited. Granted,he'd lost his wingman who had girls crawling in with his height and good looks but he could live with it if he never had to hear about how pretty the butterflies looked outside the window again. His mother asked what was wrong and if something happened but he just shook his head and said he'd never felt better which made his mother smile and kiss his head. For months life went on like this,neither boy contacted the other. Yugyeom wanted to but he knew Junior didn't care about him so he pushed the thought away no matter how much it hurt his heart. Junior didn't even bother thinking about the younger so there were no lingering feelings or thoughts on his end. For months this happened and nothing changed,no one talked to the other and no one called the other. They didn't even cross paths what with Yugyeom purposely staying out of his hyungs way and Junior not even looking in the youngers direction if they ever happened to be in the same room. Nothing changed but no one noticed so no one cared to fix it cause no one cared enough. No one noticed how sad Yugyeom was because no one cared about Yugyeom enough to look so nothing happened and nothing changed and Yugyeom was really sad but he kept silent cause he had no one to tell anymore anyway. Then on a Thursday Junior was walking home from school,his earphones in blasting whatever he wanted when he passed the toy store and he had to stop cause a man was rolling a big cart of boxes inside the doors and suddenly one box opened just enough for a stuffed animal to fall out and Junior noticed it was a duck and thought of how it looked like Mr.Quackers before he got all soggy and wet and ruined. Junior literally froze in his place,his train of thought screeching to a halt when he realized he remembered the ducks name and why did he remember the ducks name and why was he even thinking of the stupid duck when he didn't even care about the ducks owner? He stood there like an idiot not sure why his mind was going there and he was still frozen when the man came back out to grab the toy and that's when Junior snapped out of it while shaking his head in confusion and carrying on like he was before. They say the universe sends you signs,your path is marked out in signs if you pay close enough attention to read them. Junior remembers his aunt telling him that once but he shook it off,thinking it a bunch of hocus pocus that wasn't real. The only signs are road signs and Junior seriously doubted that was what she meant so he never paid attention to when she mentioned that. Maybe he should have though cause it seems the universe was trying to tell him something, very desperately too. On Monday,three days after the duck fiasco, he was walking by the park when he saw some kids playing in the sand and he couldn't help but notice how they were using a blue shovel just like Yugyeom had used when he built all those sand castles that Junior would help make sometimes. On Tuesday he was falling asleep in class when a swarm of butterflies outside the window caught his attention and he had almost been tempted to snap a pic although why the reason he wasn't sure. On Wednesday's when he went to the library he noticed a new book that came out and it was a book series that Yugyeom loved and he glanced at the cover realizing he knew all the names of the characters although he doesn't know why he still remembers. On Thursday the lunch lady serves chocolate ice cream cones and Juniors mind went fuzzy when he realized it was Yugyeoms favorite ice cream in the whole world. Junior would be lying if he said his eyes didn't search for the younger in the lunch room to see if he was enjoying it. He'd also be lying if he said a small part of him didn't feel down when he didn't see the younger. On Friday while he was waiting in the lunch line he heard a squeal and he turned around so fast he got whiplash and dropped his plate all over the girl in front of him. He apologized over and over and over but the girl slapped him in the face and honestly,that hurt less than noticing the squeal came from some freshman girl getting tickled by her boyfriend and not a tall boy who likes stuffed animals and cotton candy puffs. By the time the weekend came around the universe was tired of throwing signs and Juniors head was exhausted from running rampant with thoughts of the younger. He couldn't help it,he didn't wanna think about the younger. He didn't even like the annoying kid! But everywhere he went little things would pop up that would make the younger boys face pop in his mind. He'd go out only to see a kid jumping up and down talking about going to see the duckies at the pond. He'd walk in town only to see a little girl clutching onto a stuffed animal while eating ice cream. He'd go to the mall only to see a tall boy that had the youngers exact haircut and he'd be lying if he said he didn't do a double take. He'd go home when going out became too much but at home he'd see a jacket on his chair that he remembers the younger trying to steal once cause he liked the color. He'd turn on the tv only to see one of the cartoons the younger likes so much playing. He'd go to the kitchen only to open the fridge to find the cans of soda the younger likes that his mom started keeping here for when he came over. Everywhere he turned there was a sign pointing right to the younger and soon Junior couldn't ignore them,he didn't even try honestly. He found himself wondering about the younger,thinking of him in the smallest ways. How was he? Had he been eating enough ice cream since Junior stopped hanging sound him? Did he still watch the butterflies outside his window? Did he still make sandcastles? Was he all caught up on his shows? How was he doing in school? Did he read that new book that just came out?Did he get the ice creams they had for lunch this week? Was he giving enough attention to his stuffed animals? Did he get a new stuffed duckie? Did he still like ducks? Had he been back to the pond? Didn't anyone take him? More and more thoughts came on about the younger and soon Junior was realizing how he hadn't even seen the younger at school. He never even noticed him anymore,he doesn't remember the last time he did. Thinking in his head he realizes it's been months since he last saw the younger,months. He's never gone more than 2 days without seeing the younger cause he was always coming over or running into him when he was out. This is the longest time he's ever been away from the younger boy since he was 5 and Yugyeoms mother moved them here. Juniors mind feels fuzzy and oddly all he can think about is if someone got him a new duck. That and how he still remembers the youngers phone number by heart,even though he doesn't like the younger he called so much it was impossible not to memorize by how many times it popped on his screen. That night he calls the younger knowing he's still up. One two three rings we're sorry but the number you've dialed is busy. He hangs up and tries again. That night he has a dream about ice cream and ducks and algae filled ponds and his aunt would tell him it's a sign if Junior remembered enough of it to tell her about it. When Monday comes around Junior is tired,he hasn't been sleeping well for some reason and lately he's been staring at his phone a lot calling the younger to see what he's up to and how he's been. He never picked up and Junior isn't sure why he's so disappointed,he doesn't wanna talk to the younger he doesn't wanna hear about sandcastles or candy or toys or cartoons. He doesn't care about any of that just like he doesn't care about the younger boy at all but for some reason the fact he's not answering makes Junior upset. All through school he barely focuses cause he's so tired and he just wants to sleep and he'd lie through his teeth before admitting that he spent the day looking for a tall boy with a mushroom bowl haircut that bounced on his toes when he was excited. 10 am then 11 am then lunch and Junior didn't even eat,his eyes were wandering the room looking for the younger. His friends asked him what was wrong but he didn't answer,just nodded and acted like nothing was wrong when in truth something in him ached. 1 then 2 then 3 pm and the day ended and Junior never saw the younger anywhere. He even passed his locker to find him just so he could ask how he was but he never saw him so he left and walked home and even then he didn't see him and by the time he got home he was getting really annoyed with himself cause why the fuck did he care if he saw the younger or not? He wanted him out of his life so why was he worrying about him? Junior called him 8 times that night but he's not sure why the fact Yugyeom didn't pick up bothered him so much. Tuesday then Wednesday then Thursday passed and Junior never saw the younger at school. He never saw him in the lunchroom or by his locker or in his classes. He never saw the younger and he was beginning to think something bad had happened to him. The idea of Yugyeom hurting himself popped in Juniors head and he was so scared of the idea he ran into a locker door without realizing where he was going,his friends asked if he was okay and if he needed to go to the nurse but he shook his head and kept walking ignoring how the idea of Yugyeom hurting himself hurt more than the bump on his head. That night he called Yugyeom 12 times and on the thirteenth call something wavered in him and he found himself leaving a message. He was silent for the most part but before the beep he said call me and hung up before he fully realized what he just said. More and more days passed and that meant more and more messages on Yugyeoms phone,more and more times the younger popped in the older boys head and more and more times he found his mind wandering to the taller boy. Everyday he went to school but his friends weren't the main reason anymore no,he was actually desperate to see the tall mushroom haired boy who liked candy and chocolate ice cream and duckies more than anything in the world. Junior found himself many times calling the younger while still in school,hoping to hear his ringtone in the hallways. He never once heard it though and everyday he found himself aching more and more but why exactly he wasn't sure. One Saturday Junior got up early which is weird cause he always sleeps in till after 11 on weekends but this Saturday he couldn't sleep so he got up and went for a walk on the track near the school. His mind was fuzzy from his lack of sleep and he started humming to keep himself awake so he wouldn't pass out on the track. About halfway through the track he froze in his spot,across the street from the track was one of the parks where Yugyeom went to swing on the swings. Which is exactly what he was doing now. Junior felt like a weight had been lifted at seeing the younger,knowing he hadn't hurt himself made Junior feel a thousand times lighter but he still didn't understand why he cared so much. Just seeing Yugyeom was enough but Junior found himself moving before he could stop himself. He walked closer and closer till he was standing in front of him but the younger didn't seem to notice him,he was probably off daydreaming about something colorful or sugary or pretty which is why he usually didn't notice things others did. Hi. Just one word he said and he knew he shouldn't have said it,he didn't even know why he did honestly,but he did anyway and Yugyeoms head looked up and his eyes grew wide and worried when he saw it was Junior. Junior opened his mouth to say more but Yugyeom shot out of the swing set and took off in a run. Now in the past Junior wouldn't have cared if Yugyeom ran away on the contrary it meant he didn't have to babysit anymore for the day but today,Junior didn't mind babysitting. So he ran after Yugyeom which was harder than it sounds cause Yugyeom has long legs and Junior doesn't and it didn't take long before Junior was panting but he didn't stop he just sped up till he finally caught hold of Yugyeoms sleeve and tugged him backwards. Yugyeom didn't struggle against him but he didn't look happy either,his eyes were down not even looking in the older boys direction. Junior tried to catch his gaze but Yugyeom refused to look at him so he settled for staring at the side of his face which seems thinner than the last time he saw him. I haven't seen you in school in awhile. It wasn't the best thing to say but he didn't know what else to say. Yugyeom didn't answer didn't even look up just kept his eyes down and Junior didn't miss how he started tapping his left foot which is something he did when he was afraid and Junior frowned at the thought of Yugyeom being afraid of him. You never answer your phone anymore. Yugyeom wanted to tell his hyung he knows and how it's really hard to ignore him but he knows he should since his hyung doesn't really like him but he's not sure how to say it he's scared and wants to go home. Junior keeps staring at the younger waiting for a response but the boy just keeps tapping his foot and something inside aches deeply but he can't quite put his finger on it. I'm sorry I- Junior never got the chance to apologize cause Yugyeom tugged his arm hard enough Junior let go and by the time he shook himself from his frozen phase the taller boy was already halfway down the street. Junior sulked the whole way home,wondering if when he let go of Yugyeoms hand that day at the pond if it felt as bad as it did just now when Yugyeom let go of his. The universe was working overtime to show Junior signs, everywhere he went he was reminded of the younger and it was starting to drive him mad. School was no better,all he looked for was the younger and all he wondered about was the younger and he can't say how many times he found himself walking by his locker even when his class was on the other side of the school. Junior started breaking from his friends slowly,they still talked to him sure but one day suddenly he realized how boring all their conversations were. They spoke of the same things everyday,who screwed who and who had a party last night and who was having a party tonight along with what drugs and booze would be there. Every day,day in and day out it was the same shit and he was growing tired of it. He never realized how dull their conversations were,how had he never noticed? We're they always this dull?Why did it take him this long to notice? They'd talk and talk and talk and Junior would act like he was listening but in truth,he was thinking about if Yugyeom were here he'd be talking about sandcastles and ladybugs and coloring with chalk on the sidewalk. And Junior had to admit that that sounded so fun right now. Everyday Junior called Yugyeom,day or night he'd call. He'd call so many times the shoe was on the other foot now it made Yugyeoms phone freeze. Junior left so many messages the poor boys phone was barely working right anymore. But what choice did the older have,whenever he came over the taller boy would ignore him and if he saw him out and about he'd run away from him and Junior just wanted to talk to him but he didn't know why. Friday night Junior was coming back from the pond where he went and counted 31 duckies wishing the whole time the taller boy was with him when he passed the library. The doors opened and out walked Yugyeom with a bag of books in his hands. Junior couldn't put into words how much he hoped it was filled with Yugyeoms favorite comics and he can't explain how badly he wants the younger to ask him to come read them to him. Junior would jump at the chance,if the younger asked. But he doesn't seem to notice him so the older walks up to him but the same thing happens like the day at the park when the younger saw him and ran away. Except this time Junior has time to stand in front of him before he leaves,though he still won't look at him. Junior asks him what books he got but gets no answer. He asks if he's eaten any ice cream today but still gets no answer. He asks him if he's seen any pretty butterflies or went to the zoo recently or what's happening in his cartoons but suddenly Yugyeom snaps and looks up at him and tells him to leave him alone. You were never my friend you never even liked me. You never considered me a friend so just leave me alone. And don't call me anymore, I won't answer. Anyone who knew Yugyeom knew he's never stood up for himself in his life but this time he did and Juniors so shocked,so shocked his jaw falls open cause Yugyeoms never talked to him in that manner before. Yugyeom pushed past his hyung and went home and Junior just stood there frozen in shock,his shoulders slumped and his heart aching in his chest more than it ever has before. Days passed then weeks passed and Junior was so down he'd didn't care if he ever got up. He didn't talk to his so called friends and he didn't go out and he didn't do homework or drink. Junior did nothing but call Yugyeom and think about Yugyeom and worry about Yugyeom amd he was so sad,sad and alone and he hated himself for treating Yugyeom the way he did. He wished he could take it back but Yugyeom wouldn't listen to anything he said he wouldn't answer his calls and he'd run away if he ever saw him in public. He didn't know what to do anymore,he just knew he missed Yugyeom. Junior was down in the dumps on Sunday when it started to rain and he couldn't sit still he felt like he'd go insane sitting in the house so he decided to go walk to the pond cause lately he'd started liking that place more and more and honestly duckies were kinda cute. He was walking when it started raining harder but he didn't turn around,he just kept going. He started humming a song that's been stuck in his head for awhile and his heart aches when he realized it was a song from one of Yugyeoms shows he likes to watch on saturdays. He pulled out his phone and was just about to call the younger when he heard a squeal that made him drop his phone right on the pavement where the screen cracked in half but he didn't care. Right ahead of him was Yugyeom,in his blue raincoat spinning in circles and jumping in puddles while squealing like crazy. Ducks were waddling around him and Yugyeom would point and laugh like they were so funny and then he'd turn and jump in a huge puddle which would make the ducks quack which would make Yugyeom squeal even more. Junior had seen this sight before,many times in fact. But he didn't remember it looking this beautiful,didn't remember Yugyeom looking this beautiful. And it's then that it hits him,it's then he gets it. He finally gets why he's been aching lately and why when Yugyeom won't answer his calls he feels sad and why even though he went on dates for awhile he never felt anything and was annoyed by all the girls he dated. It's cause none of them were Yugyeom. None of them talked about sandcastles and giggled when it rained on them and talk for hours on end about cartoons and always have something sweet looking on his mouth from all the sugar he ate. None of them were important cause they weren't Yugyeom,his heart aches so deeply not just cause he felt bad about what he did to Yugyeom but cause he missed him terribly. He missed him so much so so much and he didn't even realize how badly he missed him how could he be so stupid? How could he not see how much he missed the giggly boy? Why was he so blind? Juniors beyond thinking by now,all he wants is to be close to Yugyeom so he walks over. Yugyeom doesn't see him cause his backs turned so he squeaks in surprise when someone spins him around and pulls him close and when he smells the cologne he knows so well he knows it's his hyung and he tries to pull away cause he knows his hyung hates him but he keeps pulling him closer and hugging him tighter and Yugyeom starts to enjoy it more and more cause he's really really missed his hyung. When Junior pulls away Yugyeom looks confused and his bottom lip wobbles the smallest bit and Junior spits out his apology before he cries cause how much he missed the younger. He tells him he's sorry and how stupid he was for being rude and he tells him how much he missed him and how he'll never be rude again and how he's been so lonely without the younger. Yugyeom thinks he's kidding at first till he sees how sad and wet Juniors eyes are. When he sees that he throws his arms around his hyung and hugs him super super hard cause he doesn't want his hyung sad anymore and Junior just pulls him closer and hugs him tighter and wow why did it take him this long to do this? After that day Junior spent many days building sandcastles with Yugyeom. He counted an endless amount of duckies with Yugyeom. He learned countless names of countless stuffed animals,including a new duck that Junior bought for Yugyeoms birthday. He spent non stop minutes spoiling his boyfriend who squealed and giggled so much he'd fall deeper and deeper in love with the little monster. And Junior still called Yugyeoms phone countless times,day and night night and day. Only this time,Yugyeom always picked up.
