stella lay there still, in one of the large craters that covered her home. on her back, she could look up at the stars whenever she wanted and talk to them as she pleased. they talked back a lot, giggling at her jokes, or telling her to shush because they aren't in the mood.

she watched them twinkling at each other in their own language that she could never understand. she often wondered if it was a type of morse code that only they knew.

"i want to be with you." she whispered under her breath. she pulled herself up onto the edge of the crater and looked down at the Earth, watching its rotation. it was peaceful to her, imagining being with all the people. she imagined them to be fascinating, kind creatures, and especially curious. she had seen them in their large machines shooting past her in the sky. they hadn't noticed her, however, they were focused on much bigger things.

stella leaned over further to see the different continents more clearly.

"maybe i can reach." stella muttered, stretching her arms toward the planet. she leaned dangerously close to the edge of her own home and lost her grip suddenly, falling off the edge of the small planet. its gravitational pull caught her, and she began to float around it at a slow pace.

"dangit, i'm in orbit again." she muttered. stella could hear the chiming laughter of the stars around her and flailed her arms, trying to get a grip on something. then the stars were quiet suddenly.

"yeah, you guys better stop making fun of me." stella said, pouting.

she heard concerned muttering. stella looked up and saw the real reason they'd gone quiet. there was something coming from in the distance. at first it looked just like a bright spot, far away. but it was growing. and it was coming right for her.

stella let out a squeal as all the air was knocked out of her on impact.
the only stars she could see now were the ones floating around her head.
