Chapter 1: Annabelle

___________________________

It began as every other normal Tuesday at Riverfalls High. Annabelle Malley knew nothing about her future. All she knew was that her next class was History with Mr. Fringer, a man whose stench was nothing less than 5 day old McDonalds. He is 42, and probably lives with his mom, thought Annabelle.

She was tempted to skip History and walk back home to watch Netflix. Her mom wouldn't be home for another 4 hours (being a bartender is the only option for a high school drop-out who got pregnant at 17). It doesn't pay well and the hours leave Annabelle to herself for many hours a day.

Annabelle doesn't fit in, and she knows it. Her whole life she's been an outcast, hidden in the shadows of everyone else.

For her, nothing was in her favor. Grades are just passing. Friends include her family and her Spanish teacher, Señora Cod. Well, at least she wasn't single.

Jacob Daser was a junior just like Annabelle, but he was 18 (one year older than her). He may be considered Goth, but she loved him, or at least she thought. He was an outcast like her, but they never spent time together. He was always "doing homework" or "at a family reunion" or something else so they were never able to spend time together.

Most kids at her school were having sex at 14, but the most intimate she has ever gotten was giving her boyfriend a smile. She never shows emotions because that may make people notice her, and that would be worse than death as far as she's concerned.

All she was focused on now was getting to history.

Get there right before the bell so it's not too conspicuous.

Sit down in the back right chair, closest to the do-

AHHHH, she's caught in a crowd!

No. A MOB, she corrected herself.

Now she was swallowed up by a mob of teenage delinquents! There was a slight sound of sirens from the east and-

OH MY GOSH! They killed Señora Cod, the only person she could ever tell things to that wasn't blood-related.

Now she's gone! There is only one thing to do, and Annabelle knew it was risky.

She ran. Faster than a bolt of lightning to a metal pole. It surprised even her how fast she could run. She knew there were woods nearby, and her neighbor had a little shed towards the middle, so now destination was also acquired.

Now the sirens weren't so far behind her. She couldn't get caught with murder charges. So she risked it and turned right, then left, so that she can still get to the shed.

The sirens are now a blur, so that's good.

The shed must be coming up soon.

She knew there was a key that was hidden from most, but she sometimes followed her neighbor, Mr. Sal, to the shed secretly. It's under the bottom mat. He kept two mats, one brown saying WELCOME and another under it, that looks exactly like grass. She took the key out and unlocked the door. Then she quickly shut it so no one should know it's now in use.

She thinks she must be hallucinating because she hears a faint shhh.

No. It can't be an actual person. No one else knows where the key was located.

She turned around and sitting in the shadow of the shed was a boy. He got up when she turned around. There was one peculiar window to the side of the shed, so the faint glow of sunset showed his features.

She decided to study him. Blonde hair, a little shaggy. Crystal blue eyes. Muscles. Defiantly a lot of muscles. Probably 19. But then, she looked at what he was wearing.

Since today was School Spirit Day, all students were forced to wear their hideous lime green t-shirts with their mascot, a billy goat. Since she didn't want to stick out, she decided to wear the stupid shirt with her normal sweatpants and running shoes, for comfort.

She swore she had never seen him before. She has seen almost everyone at her school, but no one ever sees her.

Well, no one but Jacob. But he's gone and out of touch, physically and mentally.

Does she know him?

"Hi I'm Blake."

Good. A name with the face. That's a start.

"I'm Annabelle."

Crap. Just gave away personal information.

He's really cute.

Shut up, she told herself.

He could be the enemy.

"..get here?"

She was so stuck in her own thoughts, she didn't realize he's been talking to her for the last few minutes.

"What?" , she said a little too snarky.

"I asked how did you get here?"

Don't tell him anything personal. Play hard to get. Strategy is key.

" Shouldn't I be asking you the same thing? "

Finally. She caught him off guard.

" My parents left me to fend for myself when I was 10. My dad was a drug addict and my mom was too drunk to care. So I go to different abandoned places every few days. I forgot what safe felt like. You sort of scared me when you came. I thought you were the cops. I almost reached for one of my weapons. Coulda killed ya in a second."

Should she trust him?

" My teacher was murdered and I was caught in a mob. I ran, but I knew this place because it's my neighbors. So here we are. I'm going back to my house soon."

It's almost dark out now though. She won't get to her house for almost half an hour.

"Oh, that's a bad idea. The woods have a mind of their own. Just stay here for the night. You'll be fine. I'll protect you."

How bad could a little sleep be?

"Fine. But only until 7:00. I need to be at school at 7:30."

"Deal", he agreed.

Little does she know that her world is going to drastically change. Life may never be the same for her.

So, what do you guys think so far? What about Blake? Please comment guys. Also, if there are any errors, please tell me! I want as little errors as possible. Next chapter is going to change EVERYTHING.
