Chapter 4: Annabelle

________________________

"You okay? You seem somewhere else", Blake whispers.

"I'm frightened more than ever."

She really is. She has reasoned with herself that now both of them are on the run, from either their parents or the authorities.

She now trusts him a little more. Not whole hearted, but enough to survive. She can't rely on anyone anymore.

But the same questions appear when she thinks helicopters or strangers are near by. What sentence is she going to get, if they don't think she's innocent? She's so young, she can't die now.

All she knows is that Blake is her key to survival, and has convinced herself that's the only reason why she sticks with him.

She leans in towards him as the chilly wind picks up, but then it's gone. Vanished in a second.

"We better get moving. Before the helicopter pilot changes it's mind."

She wonders if Blake is ever scared. He seems so confident, so prepared all the time.

They are practically swimming through the forest now. Fighting the trees, it seems like time is stretched out like a rubber band, ready to snap.

They stumble upon a house about 30 minutes away from where the helicopter last was.

"I think it would be better if we stayed here for the night. Sleep would be beneficial", said Blake while his eyes searched the place, not leaving a crevasse untouched.

Annabelle searched for food and running water, for perhaps replenishing and taking a well needed shower. She found the house to have 3 rooms; a kitchen, a bathroom and a bedroom. The kitchen had running water and some Kellogg's cereal. She was about to search through the bathroom when Blake emerges.

Annabelle has never seen a guy without a shirt, and apparently was going to have to get used to it.

She had a tendency to study people when she didn't know what to say-

His muscles were clearly earned from working out a lot. His wet blonde hair dripped over his pale skin.

"It's on the colder side but it's water and It'll clean off the dirt."

He was right. She took a shower and it felt soothing to her aching body. She ran more today than every PE class put together.

She couldn't find anything to wear in the bathroom, and certainly wasn't going outside there naked, so she put on her clothes that she wore today.

She went to the bedroom to find that there was only one bed. Since there wasn't a living room, there wasn't a couch.

Blake was already asleep so she decided to take the first watch. It was dark but she could navigate through the place to find a candle and lighter in the top right drawer in the kitchen.

She lit it and waited for dusk when it would be Blake's turn, but that was a long ways away.

Time ticked, and the sound of birds made it seem a lot less torturous to be on first watch. She got some of the cereal took a handful. It was as disgusting as molding cheese or apples.

She decided that instead of eating her time away, she would try and think of what would be happening now at her house if none of this happened.

Coincidentally, those were the thoughts that lulled her into sleep.
