Stars twinkling brightly from the sky, the moon illuminating its beauty as clouds float beside it. Cold damp air blew from the north side of the riverbank.
Faint whispers of the flowing water and the gentle rustle of the trees acquainted with the reflection of the starry night on the water.
A magestic sight it is, indeed. But, is it enough to stop the unfathomable time? What could it do to stop the ticking second as it keeps marching toward the gates of everlasting misery and doom?
A sigh escaped the boys plump lips as he threw another stone into nowhere and watched until it fades into the darkness.
Darkness. The element that most people fear of. The only domain where he can spread his wings freely. Where he can feel safe. Where he can be himself and not anybody else. Where he can gain the freedom he longed for many years ago.
Freedom, the sweet fruit of all the hardships he had fought in his entire existence. Freedom is when he can soar upon the boundless sky with no worries. When nothing can bound him. Not even those chains of poisonous words that locked him in his cage.
Glancing up the sky, shivering from the cool breeze. Perhaps, this can help him even if it's just a little. He softly laid at the grassy land and closed his eyes, wanting for a minute, just a minute, to forget all of the problems he had to face.
It was getting late, yet he didn't moved from where he is dozing off. He didn't mind the stray animals that was on his side, snuggling for his warmth.
A sudden wheeze of panting was heard. He did not needed to know who it was for there were only two person who had the guts on coming late beside the riverbank. It was his self and his idiotic friend, Klein.
"You're late." He said as he glanced at the newly arrived person. "Sorry, sorry. I got caught up on playing No Man's Sky that I didn't noticed that it was already time for our meeting." Klein chuckled as he scratched his nape in a sheepish manner.
The boy growled and stood up from where he was lying and brushed of the dirt from his clothes. "Come on, Klein. We're already late, thanks to you. Those guys would really massacre us if we would be more late than 9:00."
Klein chuckled as he hooked up his hands on the boys neck and ruffled the boy's hair. "No need to be so sore about that, Lux."
Lux glared at Klein as he irritatedly took the hand off his neck. "You can just tell me if you're gay, Klein." Lux sneered as he stormed off and the other immediately followed suit.
They walked through the lonely abandoned pavement, only the bright shine of the moonlight as their source of light. The silence and tensed atmosphere is something not a normal being could withstand. Then again, what is normal?
Klein took a glance at his companion and started babbling about nonsense to ease the tense atmosphere. Their leader rarely holds a meeting for all the members to attend and this only mean that something serious happened or about to happen.
Darkness, this is what Klein was very afraid the most but with his best friend by his side he felt completely protected. Afraid? Wait, does Lux even have a fear on something?
"You know, I've been wondering for a while now, Lux." Klein said as he place a his fingers on his chin. Lux gave him a weak nod as he was curious about what was bugging his bestfriend. However, the question made him stopped on his tracks.
"What is that you fear of?"
Lux looked at his friends, curious as to why of all many thimgs to ask that's what he chose to say and discomfort as well. Klein noticed the look on his companion and tried to just change the topic or the Lux's mood would completely turn sour.
"What am I afraid of, huh?"
Klein was taken aback from the sudden voice of Lux. After all, Lux is not the type of person who would anwer your questions.
"I am afraid of time." Lux said simply.
It took a while for Klein to digest his friend's answer and he bursted laughing. "Why? Is it because you are scared of aging or gaining some crinkles on your face?" Klein said as he kept laughing. However, Lux stayed indifferent, not caring if his bestfriend is laughing at him.
"I am scared of the feeling that only one wrong mistake in one single moment would ruin all the things we built through." Lux said as he looked down the street and at his companion's eyes. "Time is scary." He said as he looked at the big clock on a post.
Klein quickly shut his mouth up, wanting to hear the words that would come out next of his bestfriend's mouth. After all, you wouldn't always see him talk about his self.
"You know why? Because time makes me feel that only one wrong moment I would already see the doors of death in my hindsight."
They continued the walking, however, Klein stayed silent, not a single noise to be heard at the two. Lux sighed ad glanced up the sky and softly smiled.
"I'm scared of the unstoppable marching of time towards the doors of death."
After those words were let out, the duo resumed walking. Silent as the night, no one said another word.
