How it works

You must all be wondering what exactly the new format of our contest involves. What kind of competition is it? How exactly is it going to break cliches?

Well, look no further. Here is a detailed guide to how it's all going to work!

Pretty soon, we will post a rules page. Please familiarize yourself with the guidelines of this contest to ensure that you have a chance to win.

FOR WRITERS

On Friday the 13th of January (yes, we are breaking the cliche of only starting new ventures on lucky days!) we will post a form chapter, where writers can apply to enter their stories according to the BTC genres. Readers, you can rest during this preliminary period!

We will close submissions on Friday the 20th of January. Unfortunately, due to the complexity of the contest, we will only be accepting 5 books per genre. Our team will make these tough decisions over the weekend, and announce the competing books on Monday the 23rd of January. If you don't make it to the arena this season, don't worry! If this format is a success, we will be holding the contest more often.

As soon as we post the list of writers and their books, the competition will be declared OPEN!!! This is where the readers come in. You can still be a reader even if your book is in the running! The more readers, the merrier.

FOR READERS

Readers, it is your job to decide which books win the contest, but that's not all! You are to leave valuable feedback on the competing stories using the tag #BTCR2017, which will be the form of voting this season. What's special about BTCR Season 2 is that we will reward you for this! More on the goodies later...

THE SYSTEM

We will give readers and writers 4 weeks to interact with each other! That means we'll be closing the votes on Monday the 20th of February. Results will be announced on the 27th of February.

There will be one book that will win per BTC genre, which is determined using votes tallied up at the end divided by the number of meaningful parts (ie excluding author's notes). Only positive feedback (which can be accompanied by some critique) is counted as a vote. So, for example, if Book 1 has 50 chapters and 250 votes and Book 2 has 5 chapters and 30 votes, Book 2 will win over Book 1 because its score of votes per chapter is 6 as opposed to 5 for Book 1.

We will count up the number of comments that each reader has posted, and this will be regardless of the nature of the feedback. Don't be scared to leave some constructive criticism, but we ask that you remain polite. Three readers with the most comments will win our reader's awards!
